How come I get banned for responding (albeit toxic) to a toxic player?

I was feeling like switching up my games since I had a terrible veigar game before this game I am speaking of and was practicing ezreal and liked him quite a lot. The guy who was adc didn't want to play adc so we swapped adc for support. Ingame, katarina died level 1 sub 2 mins and says "ez ur a fucking idiot" even though I was able to get out while she just inted. I responded with a toxic manner and it just got worse and I ended up getting permabanned for responding? I reported her but I dont know if she got any punishment( probably not cause mine was a bot ban most likely and nobody even cares about trollers) How come players that start the flame war never end up getting punishment? How come the players that are just trying to have fun playing a game of league end up banned cause of 1 word that they said compared to how toxic katarina was all game?

Because two negatives, doesn't make a positive. As I will quote the following text from you, emphasis mine:

I responded with a toxic manner and it just got worse

You should, if you choose to respond; to respond so constructively and neutral. Or not to and just to mute them, though that will perhaps not make them stop their gameplay trolling but eventually you'll be able to report them.

I'm however, interested in your unedited chatlog.

Because listening to two nerds argue is worse than having one nerd throw a hissy fit.

Because there are eight other people in the match, and you're contributing to a toxic and negative situation that none of them want to be a part of.

If you are being toxic (which is against the rules) you receive punishment. It doesn't matter if they started it or not. 0 tolerance.

I upvoted you. Getting punished for toxicity when there is a mute button makes no sense. I am probably toxic here and there, and have received a 10-game chat restriction, but I mute people who are toxic and you know what? It works. I don't have to hear them, don't have to deal with them, and always forget about them.
