So... being new to a champ means you're braindead now?

Now, forewarning - I'm not a good player. I only just recently hit level 30, and I always seem to manage to mess things up for me and my team with stupid, panic-filled decisions.

I like to try out new champions, see how I play as them. But idiot me usually jumps blindly into a match with them, not bothering to read up any guides, or go into a practice to test out their various abilities. I admit, that bit of stupidity is on me.

Today, I figured I'd try out Draven, because Draven. (Plus, I bought him, and the Primetime Draven skin. Ain't letting that go to waste.) Me and three friends go into the match, and get a random fifth; ending up with a team of Nautilus top, Akali jungle, Shyvana mid, Draven bot, and Pyke sup.

This Pyke is just too kill-happy, managing to secure early kills on both bot-laners (Jinx/Janna), not even giving me a chance on that. About that time, he begins ping-spamming for me to fall back, even though he's taking all the farm, and is basically making me fall behind. I only fell back so I could start buying items, and by the time I got back, those two were back, and they made mincemeat of the both of us.

This is when Pyke began to type, all-chat CAPS LOCK, how "this draven is braindead".

After this point, this guy just blows his top about how I sucked, even ignoring me saying I was new to the champion, my friends telling him I'd only recently hit level 30, ect. He was just convinced I was feeding or something, I guess. Guy got so salty, he demanded the other team report the Akali, because she died when he began ping-spamming her for help. Speaking of ping-spamming, that's about all this guy did - trash-talk, spew salt to his own team, act like he was carrying us all, spam pings, what have you.

So is the new thing to tell players who are either new or still learning that they're braindead, or somethin'? Honestly, the days of just having people ask the enemy team to report you for inting seem so much nicer.

Try not to worry too much, we were all at this point once. Most of us anyway. Your team comp was bad though. I can't see Shyv mid working very well, and I know for a fact that Akali jg doesn't work AT ALL.

I do have some pointers for you though.

  1. If you have toxic teamates, mute them. I know from experience that if you get tilted enough, you'll play much worse.

  2. Try to watch/read champion guides before trying a new champ. Noxro does some really good guides on YouTube.

  3. Try to start with easier champs. Draven is rather difficult to use properly, especially his Q. If you start small and work your way up, you'll have a better time. Tristana is a good first marksman.

No, it's always meant that. 'cause the basics of a champion (that hasn't been changed too much) can be learned from their spotlight. Barring that, you can look at their page in the client.

There's no excuse to go into a game with no idea how to play a champion.

That said, this scenario has literally nothing to do with you being new to Draven. If he's picked an assassin, even if it's Pyke, and is stealing your farm, report him.

Keep doing what you're doing, try whatever and whoever you'd like. I did this for the first 2 years of when I started playing, never played a same champion twice in a row. I fed and did terrible plenty of games but I had tons of fun experimenting and playing all the different champions this game had to offer. If someone gives you a hard time about your performance, just /mute them and report them at the end of the game.

"Stealing kills". Mother of god.

This community from time to time will be toxic, I recommend just muting them at the first sight of chat toxicity, and as for playing draven bot try to have a premade support

Dude, keep doing what you're doing. Enjoy the game however you like to enjoy the game. People are going to be toxic, and that's why the mute buttons exist. It doesn't take anything away from your play to mute people, and typing is a liability anyway. 99.99% of all the communication you need can be done through pings, and if someone is abusing pings you can mute that too.

On the flipside, try to catch yourself before you feel the salt too. I can't tell you how to feel, but I'd suggest asking questions about what you can do differently to get the results you're looking for. How would you have secured those kills? What was the mistake that led to you dying 2v2 when you came back to lane?

You only have to play one game with that Pyke, but you play every game with yourself. Think like that and you'll get better and feel better.

/mute all Best feature in league

Some of these comments about the pyke being in the right considering the matchstyle (draft or blind) or telling this guy what he should have done in game is BS. This guy is newish to the game and experimented in a normal game. Pyke should not have flamed at all, especially after his/her friends said the account just reached level thirty.

Just keep playing the game and you'll get better. Don't get sad or mad at toxic teammates and ignore. I know it sucks to get flamed but there's nothing you can do about it other than muting the haters. This game is more fun when you get good at it.

Also, normals are meant to be fun. Pick whatever you want and play how you want. When I play with cousins in normals I literally play who I want and how I want. Like a week ago I played adc raka and destroyed the game. Or I'll play jungle katarina because I can. The only time you shouldn't troll pick/first pick is in ranked.

Nothing new about it, sadly.

I went through through the same exact thing, I was lvl 40 on my first ever account and I played kindred (I thought they were cool even though I was pretty average at her). She was soo hard to play because I didn't know how to dodge and I usually spammed my abbilities. Not AA ing because I had 15- games. It was horrible. A lot of smurfs or players that knew what they were doing would spam ping, flame and report me for "inting" like I was playing in gold.(I was unranked because my first ranked game was soo toxic I gave up on it) Later I just had a mindset I was always the worst player in every match and this lead to me making a new account just playing aram And God aram helped, I learned team fighting, dodging skill shots, champions and their abilities and even started to carry most of my matches. Don't worry man you will get better and even surpass those who flame you.( btw give aram a shot)

I feel the pyke was more annoyed because your playing draven a heavy early game adc.

Void Kaiju8/22/2018, 8:36:46 PM1 votes

My recommendation is have a one strike policy for flame and spam pinging. Mute both their chat and pings after they do those things. Your account is still new and that means you're down in the mud with people levelling new a counts after they were banned for toxicity. It's how I do business in ranked if somebody is really getting to me.

I do recommend also putting in a wee bit more time before you bring a champ into pvp. When you're new you're still learning the basics of the game in general, which really slows down your ability to pick up the nuances of a champion on the fly. Sometimes all you gotta do is look up a mobafire guide (esp. for Draven. his kit isn't complicated to understand it just takes time to pick up).

Tristan Griffon8/22/2018, 11:45:03 PM1 votes

Well, thank ya'll for the words, for sure. (Most of ya'll, anyhow. o.o)

I'll just keep doing me. As for that team... Everyone but the Pyke were my friends, and my brother, the Akali, insists Akali jungle can work. Honestly? I don't see it.

Dweeebles8/23/2018, 12:02:03 AM1 votes

I think it is respectful to other people in the game to at least have tried a champ before you play them in normals. That is what the training ground and vs bots is for, use it! I make it a point to always do a least a bot game with a champ before I play against other people so I have at least a preliminary understanding and feel for the abilities. That being said If you have a full group of 5 then do whatever you want.

Please, please, please don't ever first time a champ in ranked.... very disrespectful and you should be reported if you do this.

Its ok for pyke to steal kills because you get the gold from it still. But it seems like he was out of line in general.

Tristan Griffon8/24/2018, 12:38:49 AM1 votes

Why is EVERYONE assuming this is in ranked?! I ain't even TOUCHED ranked, for the love of god.

Hyquiem8/22/2018, 2:34:17 AM1 votes

Was this draft, cus then he got a right. But if it was blind and he’s telling you bs, you should tell him “lol ok”

laugh0Rcry8/22/2018, 5:33:14 AM1 votes

so i guess ill be the one to address the elephant in the proverbial room. from what i'm understanding when it comes to your story, this has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that u don't know how to draven. What seems to have tilted this pyke support, who sounds bad as well, is that you don't understand where to position yourself and what to be doing during laning phase. The only champion specific thing which would have impacted you here is that you are unfamiliar with Draven's farming/csing pattern (the most efficient way to attack and use abilities in order to get the last hit on all of the wave). My guess is you extended too far forward opening yourself to free damage during trades in laning, and then when falling back opened ur support up to get damage taken on them. Of course this is a normals match and this pyke should be more supportive, in ranked tho i would not blame him.
