You are making the common mistake. People aren't offended, they are annoyed by having yappy dogs in their game while trying to play.
I think the flamers need thicker skin...
I mean, to me the one saying things like "kill yourself, i r#pe your c#ncer family" because of a video game seems more mentally unstable than the one being annoyed by this guy.

Am I thick skin yet?
Shit-talking = Whining
Why not tell the shit-talkers to grow THEIR own thick skin.
Right, I can't tell you how many games I've had ruined by people with such thin skin that being down 5min into a 20+min long game causes them to throw a tantrum and yell at everyone. Those people absolutely need to be removed from the game.
i definitely agree that a lot of people that play this game dont really have what is called thick skin.
i mean if they did they wouldnt be flaming.
but i think flaming is just a symptom of a bigger problem, it seems to me its a lack of education in real life situations, a person flaming simply does not have the mental tools to deal with stressful situations. this could be a lack of parenting success or lack of educational success, but either way, i dont blame the flamer, since he simply isnt well prepared mentally for real life. and these are tools acquired when you are a kid. not when you are a 30 year old assault and battery convict for flipping out cuz someone cut you off on the highway.
so essentially im kind of conflicted about flamers, on one end i think they should be banned and reported, on the other hand its not really their fault their parents and teachers failed so hard that they became a flamer.
People having thick skin doesn't give you the right to be a toxic brat.
shuld git thikhar skin 4 dem baddies and go ez on le flame.
There's a difference between trash talking and just being a jerk. Even in pro sports there's a fine line between them, and those who cross that line get punished. From Ulanopo's Knowledge Base:
Trash talk is part of all competitive sports. It happens all the time in the pros.
Yes and no. Yes, trash talk occurs, but it has definite limits. Most of the things that are punished in game (racial, ethnic and homophobic slurs, sexism, etc.) would also earn you a hefty fine in professional sports.
A Tumblr List of NBA Fines (http://nbafines.tumblr.com/) (My personal favorite on that site is this indefinite suspension (http://nbafines.tumblr.com/post/1010368028/3-12-96-the-nba-suspended-mahmoud-abdul-rauf-den), simply for refusing to stand during the National Anthem.)
A List of NFL Fines for Taunting (http://www.spotrac.com/fines-tracker/nfl/all-years/fines/taunting/)
NBC Article on Fines Agreed to by the NFLPA (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/12/01/bizarrely-specific-nfl-fines-come-from-agreed-league-union-schedule/) "Excessive profanity or other unsportsmanlike conduct triggers a minimum fine of $10,500."
NHL Office of Player Safety (http://www.nhl.com/ice/eventhome.htm?location=/playersafety) Brendan Shanahan is the ****ing Bad Santa of the NHL. Did you know that his Office of Player Safety watches every minute of every game, from multiple angles? He sees and hears EVERYTHING, including swearing.
... and the grand finale! Marge Schott (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marge_Schott), who was forced out of ownership of the Cincinnati Reds for racist comments and pro-Nazi sentiments.
At the end of the day it's really not about thick skin --
If you cause Riot to lose more money than they gain by making people quit through your toxic actions than the amount you contribute (i.e. most the community finds you toxic) you are a burden to profitability and therefore need to be removed.
Just like most real world debates, both sides have truths and falsehoods.
Toxicity is absolutely a problem, but we shouldn't expect everyone to be so friendly that we lose all competitive spirit.
On the flip side, people do need to learn to toughen up, but Riot would be wrong to let the community become so foul that anything goes.
