How Do You Handle Toxic Players?

Advent Sign·10/17/2016, 6:12:09 AM·2 votes·1,819 views

My friend is just getting continuously tilted because of the negativity in games when just one mistake from anybody results in my friend getting flamed for not "supporting" them (even when they continually run out and feed or try to initiate 2 or 3 on 5 team fights while they are under leveled.

So I am asking this: how do you handle toxic players? Does it get better in higher ranks? I'm not as good as her, but I play a jungler do I don't get flamed as much and just brush it off when I do get flamed.

Keep in mind that I'm not talking about criticism. I'm talking about hate and racist comments for not winning an unwinnable fight or not taking a dragon as fast as they want to, even if we get the dragon later or get ambushed by it by rushing in and not planning. That sort of stuff.

let them bury themselves in their toxic chatlog then report them.

Type at the start of the game:

/ignore all

Laugh out loud. Ignore them. Keep playing.

I rarely run into toxic cases like that, but when I do, I just plainly mute them. When people are busy flaming, I don't think they'll manage to come up with any sort of plan or strategy, so you (or your friend) probably won't be missing out on anything important.

I mute every single person in the game.

Pings are basic, but easy to understand.

Then, if I see that there was toxicity in the game in the postgame chat, I report the offending player.

/mute all Turn off sound

Wait until the end of the game to hear them rage about how I lost them the game, or Report X player, then I just report them all back for chat harassment.

I had to deal with a player running in within like 60 seconds of the game starting today and intentionally putting the enemy ahead and using bard to troll me making the game like impossible to play then deal with the chat harassment that came with it and had to just mute everyone...

Its sad that League OF Legends is a team game but players have to be Trolls or Idiots but one person can drag an entire game down just by starting shit in chat ruins my ability to hear pings or listen to anything and that itself can cost a game, lost a game earlier simply because our ADC refused to fall back chased the enemy got the enemy a tipple kill then the supports starts to argue in chat /mute all again and easy loss.

I just find it hard to believe that players in any moba are the "R" word, because it feels to me like there is a word beyond the "R" word the toxic word people call others because I know someone who was this way in real life and honestly they still did a lot better than what some players I see in League do?

The best way to handle this is to just uninstall and find a new game. League of Legends will only waste your time playing with trolls and toxic players. The game is already dying. Save your time and play something better. Wasting hours of your life with toxicity is not worth it.

I mean, if they are being toxic, they aren't going to talk about what needs to be done so it's basically back to muting.

Most people who complain about flamers are people who just want to tilt themselves, it isn't hard to mute, you know the person flaming is only going to flame, you're just trying to tilt yourself...

Too bad 95% of league players don't realize this.

and the flaming tends to lower itself around diamond 2 and up.

I usually give them the friendly honor at the end of a game. I like to hope it confuses them/makes them laugh and stop being so mean.

If we're talking random players who are toxic, I usually just ignore them. That or tell them to stop (politely). If they don't want to stop I just ignore them and report them afterwards. There isn't much you can do in game to stop a player from being toxic other than /mute. It sucks, but it's the best thing we have. Usually if you remain quiet and don't stoke the fire they stop talking. I've had that happen a couple times where an ally tried to flame my team for their mistakes, but we all ignored them and they went quiet pretty quick when they realized no one was responding.

If we're talking about a toxic friend, that's honestly a tough situation. I've had my fair share of toxic/easily tilted friends I played with who can't seem to grasp how terrible they're acting. I've tried being calm during games, telling them it'll be okay or not to worry to diffuse the situation, but usually those types of people are hard to reach once they've gotten into that state of mind. Mostly for the easily tilted ones.

The friends I used to have who were super toxic to play with I just stopped playing with them in general. I couldn't stand their behavior and pretty much removed them from my FL. I do this with any game really :P Even when I've approached them about their behavior towards me and others (nothing like being called a "whore" by a "friend"), they generally deny it or shrug it off like no big deal. So there's no reason to waste time on them and ruin the game forever.

Overall, all I can really say is you can try talking to them, but keep in mind you can't change a friend who tilts/is toxic unless they want to change themselves. You can do literally everything to calm them down, but it'll mean nothing if they don't want to listen, or don't want to admit they have a problem. It's best to let them be and focus on your own peace of mind. If they keep getting worse or make the game less fun, then it might be time to sit them down, have a heart-to-heart, and tell them that you enjoy their friendship, but you can't keep playing games together until they improve their attitude. Just, obviously be very polite and professional about it. Don't be accusatory, but don't let them deflect the blame via excuses.

As for behavior in higher ranks: It doesn't get better. Toxic people exist in every rank unfortunately. It has nothing to do with skill level or elo. It has to do with the individual playing and their attitudes.

I hope that helps :) And I wish you luck.

you dont you have to get cancer and jsut accept that its never going to go well

apparently you missed the riot memo about how they only care what greedy fucks do and damn you if you fail to support them and be their bitch

If you dont mute, they should have the right to flame you. It should be YOUR responsibility to mute or to not let it get to you.

Gojiraw10/18/2016, 10:08:57 AM1 votes

Mute them all. Done! There is not a single thing that you can write in that chat to help you win games more that can pings. Chat is useless. If it's annoying for you, just mute everyone and play the game.

There is a bad attitude from your friend too, as far as SoloQ is concerned. Yea, people will do a stupid thing, people will die by being outnumbered. But... It's not healthy to sit back and see them drop. Just go ahead with their stupid plan and try to do the best out of it. In the long run, you will win more games by being there for a bad fight, than by stepping back and let your team deal with it.

Mute.

Screenshot their toxicity. Good to see them digging their own grave.

Send screenshot to Riot.

It doesn't bother me.

I'd take a toxic player on my team over a feeder any day of the week.

HellsGawd10/17/2016, 6:47:25 AM1 votes

why ppl cant just mute option? WHY

Unstoppable Monk10/17/2016, 6:57:14 AM1 votes

Negativity isn't necessarily toxic.

Going into a game with to spread misery to others more than play League of Legends is toxicity. Saltiness is going to happen in ranked, but people shouldn't blow a gasket every game they play which isn't even lost. Sadly, noobs absorb the toxicity of leveling up---they become immersed into believing that behavior is normal. Try not to bring the team down.

I explain my actions for the most part. Sometimes people might agree with me so it just makes them noob if they are saying more toxic.
