Kill yourself.

This is the worst thing you can possibly say to someone here because it is the only thing that can lead to actual harm. It doesn't matter if you're the enemy Kayle telling me to do it because I'm beating you 5-0 with Garen, or you're my ally telling me to do it because I died to a counter jungle as Warwick. If I'm in the state of mind where I've actually been contemplating suicide-- and since you all don't know my name it's okay to tell you that I have been for quite some time-- the words have weight.

Simply seeing those two words aimed at me crushes me a little more, cuts a little deeper despite the fact you don't know my name, I don't know yours, and I know you don't know how much I really want to. I've even taken to responding jokingly with the all-too**-true** statement, "I was going to, but someone called the police."

I don't think it needs to stop because this community is full of assholes-- the kind of game this is dictates that the community will always be full of assholes. I think it needs to stop because it has stronger implications than anything else you could say. Call me a bad player, fine. Call me a slur that doesn't actually apply to me because you don't know me, fine. But when you tell me to kill myself, you don't need to know me to hurt me.

Edit: I've noticed there are a few people coming out of the woodworks to say, "stop being a bitch." Since that solution relies on the premise that this is a matter of strength, it's incorrect in its base assumption and needs no further rebuttal. All I'll say is that I actually agree when it comes to offensive things. Merely offending someone should never warrant a punishment, since offense it entirely subjective. But this isn't offense, it's objectively an attack on the person. The one condition is that you may be in ARAM and need to buy, but even then the time difference between typing "execute" and "kys" isn't an excuse.

Declovone, we've disagreed several times in the past, but for what it's worth, I'm glad you're still among the living. I don't know where the current trend of "kys" emerged from (I played WoW like it was my job from like 2005 to 2012 and never heard it), but people need to understand how fucked up it is to say that to somebody. In general, the concept of suicide and suicidal tendency is extremely misunderstood by wide swaths of the community, and more people need to read an account like yours in order to grasp what sort of impact these words can have.

There's no situation in which it is appropriate to say "kill yourself" or "kys" to anyone, ever. I understand flaming can help sometimes, I understand no one is perfect, but like I said before- saying "kill yourself" is never an appropriate action when faced with a tough matchup, or when you get tilted. It isn't just about people being sensitive, it's about the principle of what the phrase means, and it's honestly disgusting when people use the term so carefree.

If some stranger telling you "kys" on some random internet game makes you actually consider harming yourself IRL, then you have serious mental issues that you need to get professional treatment for. A person suffering from mental illness who gets triggered easily probably shouldn't be playing a game with an unmonitored chat box, just like an recovering alcoholic probably shouldn't work at a bar.

I mean, to be fair, if a random internet person telling you this sets you on a path to do it, you have way bigger problems. People need to take responsibility for their own actions. If you kill yourself, its because YOU chose to do it. Not because of anyone else. It is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Don't try to push it off as someone else's fault. To be fair I report everyone who says it along with all other toxic language, but please, lets just stop blaming others for our own issues.

Hey man, stay strong. I’ve been there and I know how hard it is. But the world is a better place with you in it. Don’t let anyone or anything convince you otherwise.

As for league, I recommend that at even the first hint of flaming or negativity you mute them. It is 100% there responsibility to not say awful things, but there’s too many people out there to hope that they’re all responsible. So just mute and ignore the flamers before they start saying really messed up things.

Honestly, if I'm in a state of mind where I'm contemplating suicide, ",kill yourself" isn't really that bad. People telling you how worthless you actually are digs way deeper(at least for me)

cmon dude just 3 damn letters told by a random internet guy,if u want to harm yourself cuz a random dude told u that then there's something seriously wrong with u,its just another insult nothing special.

I didn't even read. I will just say one thing about that.

Over sensitive people.

If you actually want to kill yourself or hurt yourself because some RANDOM IDIOT from a fucking VIDEO GAME told you to do so, then.. well, i don't know. I'd tell you to do so, but it's too childish. Don't you have other things to do in your life ? I'd NEVER hurt myself if some random silver idiot told me 'kys' or 'hang urself'. It just shows how stupid you are. The person who said that is stupid, but if you listen to that person, you're even more stupid.

Amen.

No sarcasm: maybe you could become the anti-suicide vigilante.

Every time someone says it, screenshot them, go to Riot Support, and submit a ticket in addition to an Instant Feedback Report. Friend and duo with them, gain their trust, and then screenshot everything they say about their toxic attitude, not to mention any in-game flame. Submit all that to Riot Support, too. Once they get chat restricted, tell them that you were the one behind it all, and that every time they think of posting something toxic again, they should remember that someone just like you could still be out there. Screenshot their reply as a trophy and then block them.

Oh, boy, now that I think about it, you could tape yourself and post to YouTube. Have a really sweet intro and outro. Use a voice changer in a dark room. Develop a catch-phrase. Post updates to the forum and Reddit. Indeed, start a sub-Reddit. Grow a community of vigilantes like yourself, each one with a different mission. Create a Rogues’ Gallery of screenshots of text replies from defeated villains. Require and encourage a warm and welcoming environment on the sub-Reddit to motivate the vigilantes.

I’m half-tempted to do this myself now. What do you think of the idea, OP?

change the title of this seeing that on the main page is triggering

It should be a banable offense.

Much love to you. I hear your pain, it's not easy. Thankfully it's been a long time since I have been told that in game, but it hurts to hear it, because depression is real and I play games to escape it, not bring it into focus.

I've reported some people who were insanely bad on this topic, and, as far as I know, it just went into the ether.

I strongly agree with you. Suicide kills far, far more people than mass shootings. Suicide is rampant today, in fact, it's one of the leading causes of death among youth. Just look: https://www.cdc.gov/injury/wisqars/pdf/leading_causes_of_death_by_age_group_2015-a.pdf

It's incredibly idiotic we've let it become a meme. Just plain dangerous.
