I think banning people for toxicity does nothing for the game

Your never ever going to stop toxicity for the most part toxicity is mostly driven by impulse SOME people simply have more buttons to press than others. Honestly Riot should look into psychology.. because you dont understand how "players" behave your logic is:

toxicity = bad, therefore we punish you but hey we understand you get bad games! :D

In call of duty for example or any other xbox live game the classic example of toxicity is a pubescent child threatening to make forbidden love with your mother.. now does anyone actually buy or give into claim? no? because its obvious??? call of duty is pretty damn competitive as well , now wheres those bans at? with that game? but its not league?? so people who play league of legends are deemed as weak then because we dont have thick enough skin to handle in game text from someone we never even seen before in real life? or we are soooo righteous and bold but not enough to press the goddamn mute button to begin with.

Banning people wont stop behavior entirely either, i actual concur it would add oil to the fire in a lot of cases you see your matchmaking system is very reason we even have toxicity to begin with. You can win 5 games ina row, the effort put into each match slowly builds that "pride" that pride that tells your good at the game or the pride that tells you, you deserve to win because x, y, and z. Then your system does something called compensation in other words it works against you.. so now look at this from a psychological stand point you have:

  1. The matchmaking system that's against you. (EDIT)
  2. Your allies are against you, not intentionally but the system squeezes you and them together.
  3. The enemy team is obviously against you too, pretty much a third party who does not care about you if anything they entice a situation further.
  4. Last but not least Riot games. Because "toxicity is bad and we side with the righteous only." Not word from mouth but you can translate they're stance on toxic players as that statement.

So its pretty much everyone against you, where does all that bottled energy go too? hmm? does riot need to sell stress grabbing balls so players refrain from becoming keyboard warriors?

You just cannot stop it, it will NEVER end. Period. Yes perhaps banning allows one to reflect upon ones actions and take in wisdom and all the other righteous bullshit but then again toxicity is still present, it still does NOT go away so what does Riot games really accomplish? because from my perspective as a player currently undergoing a 14 day ban i still dont feel like i deserved it i feel like i deserved a chat ban perhaps a more brutal one then my last one. So in the end you guys accomplish nothing, the community still remains toxic, people still trash talk and the hens are still cackling.

This means that the system does not work entirely and perhaps your philological stance on player behavior needs to be reevaluated not to side with toxic players such as myself but be more understanding MORE than now changes i purpose would be that only homo slurs and telling players to kill themselves should ONLY earn the 14 and perma ban with the exception of an extreme case of toxicity that and the games after chat bans that lead into the 14 day ban needs to reset within the amount of matches underwent much faster, Furthermore after losing one bad game its very possible to lose and have ANOTHER bad game just because of your matchmaking system. Because when Riot calls us toxic or the community it angers people more because WE DO NOT WISH to be toxic in the first place i am not the fucking incredible hulk but jesus players really do some spiteful shit in game all the damn time in ranked, situations just force our hands.

The point is toxicity isn't going away anytime soon and its time to stop treating us like were criminals who dont belong in society because that's completely contradictory at its FINEST the whole damn community is fucking TOXIC in one way or another the majority who dont get caught out by the system can do other spiteful things in game that your system cannot track there's multiples forms of toxicity that remains undetectable. So giving that 00.6% bullshit about being the "small percentage" is the most hilariously controversial shit ever like #League of legends is toxic period.

This is a snippet from the Tribunal FAQ (an old system) but the message/philosophy is still clear/standing today:

Will the Tribunal change the “attitude” of players? We know that there is a small percentage of players that will never change their attitudes, and will always be toxic in every single game they play. The Tribunal is designed to remove these players from the game and will continue to ban them aggressively until they stop playing League of Legends.

However, there is also a percentage of players that currently behave poorly, but with the Reform Cards from the Tribunal will learn what they need to change to avoid being punished by the Tribunal. In NA and EU, up to 50% of players that are punished actually change their behaviors because of the Reform Cards and are not punished again. I am hopeful that the Taiwan community can show even bigger improvement and together make even bigger changes in the Taiwan community.

Yes Riot's Player Behavior system isn't perfect (spoiler alert: they never claimed it was), but if you're expecting perfection out of any PB system then your standards are too unreasonably high. Also not every LoL player is toxic or even receives a punishment of some kind. If you're encountering toxicity in a vast majority of your games then chances are the problem is you since you are the only player present in all of your games. Now let's look at your reasonings:

The system that's against you.

If you want to be a jerk and ruin other peoples games then yes it is.

Your allies are against you, not intentionally but the system squeezes you and them together.

This is a team game, and if you're yelling and raging and being a jerk (i.e. not being a team player) then expect your teammates to be against you. On the flipside if you're mature and respectful and are a team player then you can usually count on your teammates being with you.

The enemy team is obviously against you too, pretty much a third party who does not care about you if anything they entice a situation further.

Most times the enemy team won't care about who is behaving poorly on your team unless you bring the drama into all-chat and/or are intentionally feeding/trolling.

Last but not least Riot games. Because "toxicity is bad and we side with the righteous only." Not word from mouth but you can translate they're stance on toxic players as that statement.

Riot sides with those who display mature and respectful (i.e. neutral or positive) behavior, only punishing those who consistently display poor behavior and banning those who refuse to clean up their acts.

Also, the mute button is not a get out of jail free card. Think of the mute button like a band-aid: yes it helps to alleviate the pain but does it change the fact that you got hurt? No. Same thing with the mute button: yes it prevents you from listening to more of their raging and flaming but does it change the fact that they were displaying that poor behavior in the first place? No. Why should the community and Riot allow someone to continue to play if they've shown time and time again that they want to rage and flame at others when things don't go their way despite being given multiple warnings saying to stop with that behavior?

TL;DR: Riot is not trying to treat people like criminals, but rather mature individuals/adults instead. If you're willing to interact with others in a neutral or positive manner then you don't have to worry about getting punished and can expect to be recognized for your good behavior through things like Hextech Crafting and Honor Capsules and the like. On the other hand if you just go into multiple games throwing a fit and ruining games when things don't go your way then expect to receive a punishment along with a warning that more severe punishments will come if you don't straighten up. The PB systems will never be perfect, but they do get the job done, and if "working" to you means being absolutely perfect then expect nothing but disappointment. To quote Kei143:

When Riot permabans someone, their philosophy is "the chances of this guy reforming isn't a whole lot, we'd rather not have him in the game". Thus in their eyes, they have already written off the toxic player as a paying client.

From a business standpoint, do they want to remove the toxic guy who has spent $500 but is causing a negative environment for 4-9 other players in every game? Those non-toxics are also spending $500 and probably will spend more, promote the game more when they are enjoying the game AND they won't cause a negative environment.

I personally think it is a fine argument to protect the ones that are paying money and aren't toxic rather than protecting the ones that may pay the same amount but are toxic.

It's not like the system is arbitrary. Riot believes, based on evidence gathered over seven seasons, that the current system improves the game for the highest number of people. Banning toxic players is ultimately a move to improve Riot's own bottom line: By banning one toxic player, a number of other players are more inclined to keep playing and keep spending money. I trust Riot's read on the numbers more than one person's gut reasoning on the subject.

Personally, I don't get upset by toxic players, but I DO occasionally get discouraged. After all, I'm trying to have fun. Having somebody screaming at me while I'm doing my thing isn't fun. If I'm not having fun, I play less, and I spend less on RP.

And I disagree entirely with the "force our hands" sentiment. That's ridiculous. It's easy to never get punished in League. I've never had so much as a chat restriction, and most people are in the same boat. Don't engage, it's that simple.

No League of Legends is stopping toxicity by a lot. Players now have to be more aware now that the system is getting strict. This is a great move by Riot. When you downloaded this game you agreed to the Term of Use Section 5. Code of Conduct 5.1. "Can I troll, flame, threaten or harass people while using the Riot Services? (No. If you do, you might get banned.)"

WE ALL agreed to follow The Summoner's Code. Regardless if you didn't read the Term of Use, YOU agreed to it. With that said, your attitude, language, and action is on watch. Not by Riot, but by all the players who don't want toxicity in this game.

League of Legends is FIGHTING against toxicity PERIOD.
