I don't understand how the honor system works anymore

So about a year ago I got chat restricted for 10 games for being a toxic little shit in game. I get it, I may not agree with it, but I accepted it and look inward to make sure I don't just get the frustrations of the day out on teammates.

a year later I was still stuck honor 1, checkpoint 3. I was receiving key frags very often, I did the best I could to REALLY reform. Granted I had a few outbursts here and there but they were very few and far between. And finally I hit honor 2. Man I was happy for a while

Until the last four games, which (even though I won them) were the most tilting games I had ever been in. I guess I was pushign 60 % winrate so the game put me in more challenging games. And oh boy were they challenging.

I know I was hyper toxic. Not insulting, I just wasn't a very nice teammate to play with. And when I got into my fifth game and got hit with a chat restriction I thought "well, here's a year of reforming down the drain".

But it was worse than that. I didn't get hit with a 10 game chat restriction. It's a 25 game C.R.

I understand how the system works, You get punished more and more the more toxic you are, but a FULL YEAR seperating the firt offense from the second SHOULD be enough to reset it right? now I am in honor 0 and honestly I am not sure how to feel about it.

On a side note, how come I get insta punished if i am toxic but I had to send a support ticket to riot games to make sure my report of the dude who ran it down my lane goes through? (that was the game that got me banned, support brand decided to run it down because I didn't help him in a 1v4)

If it took over a year to get out of honor level 1, you must be doing something that prevents you from climbing the only things that I can come to think are.

  • You say things that are borderline toxic
  • You are neutral and therefore avoid chatting as a whole

those 2 slow down the progress significantly

as for if it has been reset or not; That's the thing, you aren't supposed to know that, they want you to be sportsmanlike at all times, not only when you have been given a punishment

What can I do to improve or reform?

Adhering to the Summoner's Code in every game you play is the best way to enjoy League of Legends and create a positive experience for other Summoners in your game. If you do not respond to any negativity and only chat constructively in game, you will not be punished by the Instant Feedback System.
If you want more details on the positive behavior that every summoner should practice you can check out Behavior Worthy of a Champion
Should you encounter a particularly toxic player, remember that silence is a powerful tool. You can utilize the /mute and /ignore functions in game to avoid viewing further negativity. You can also make use of the Smart Ping feature for communication with the rest of your team.
Remember that you are fully responsible for all activity on your account, and if suspensions or bans are incurred, we will not be able to modify them.

It is not time that brings your account back into good standing. It is time plus games in which you're well behaved. Reports against you that are valid will slow your reform, even if you're not punished.

Did you take gameplay breaks during that years time?

The honor system is not time gated, as confirmed to me by multiple Riot Support agents. Only playing a high number of honorable games played without being validly reported, will put your account back into good standing.

Thats good. Theyre trying to tell you to stop being toxic. They dont want you to think that going a year without being toxic means youre okay to be toxic again. Its about not being toxic, not occasionally being toxic. They probably felt you needed a harsher warning this time, since you slipped back into your old ways. Also, you admitted to being "hyper toxic". They do punish based on severity too, not just strictly following the tier system.

It really depends on how many games you play, and not dependent on time elapsed.

I'm guessing you don't play the game very often?
