The Automatic Report System is a Failure

Before you jump down and downvote, this isn't about a banned account. I've never been in trouble, warned or otherwise pushed by the tribunal. I am an all around positive player. I've had the misfortune of playing with a certain user, and his various banned accounts at high elo. This has included things like death threats to teammates in lobbys, afking, and all around massively abusive behavior. Let's be clear, 7 of his accounts had been banned, and now we're on account 8. This is public knowledge, and this user has gone so far as bragging about these punishments on his twitter account and twitch account. (If this is considered naming / shaming, let me know and I can edit it, but I believe he's opened this up for discussion, seeing as he has no problem bragging about and encouraging this kind of behavior on various media platforms). https://twitter.com/lol_tyler1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3haHXRC4v4I (in this video, we even have an example of a death threat at 6:09)

This kind of behavior reoccurring, and then being given 7-8 chances is not fair to players who are actually trying to play the game and have fun. It's inconceivable to me that he actually had one of his accounts unbanned this month and could continue playing on it to ruin the game for others, despite 6 prior permanent bans on his other accounts. This is either gross incompetence on the part of the support team, or the support system in place is too flawed to function for recurring offenders.

This is just one of many examples. I've sent in reports (with video evidence) of players boosting on another account. Some going so far as to actually save these highlights on their twitch.tv account. Despite this, these reports seem to be utterly ignored and disregarded, even when a support ticket is directly filed. We should be dependent on real support agents, not bots, addressing players who seem to be consistently demonstrating this kind of severe behavior.

My critique is about the dysfunction of the report system, and its failings in dealing with players in an appropriate way when they do deserve a punishment. Riot is way too forgiving, or perhaps not spending enough time investigating accounts to halt negative behavior that is being reported. There is absolutely no reason any of his accounts should have been on a short ban. This may or may not be a fault of the automatic system, but it needs to be addressed, because it's clearly an issue. When this user is now on account number 8 and calling users inbred pieces of shit, there needs to be a discussion about the integrity and validity of the report system.

Yes, it's naming and shaming.

Secondly, Riot has publicly acknowledged the support system doesn't do anything about small reports. You should contact them when there are mass cases of abuse: Ie, someone selling 100 accounts.

Lastly, there's nothing wrong with the report system. Your main problem seems to be with players being allowed to make new accounts. Most of the time, toxic smurfs are banned by the time they reach level 30. It's almost without question that this kid is buying his accounts, because he could never survive the leveling process.

The only real thing Riot could do to him is IP ban him, which would require a manual review and they almost never do.

I'm not entirely clear what you're suggesting, but you seem to be on a logical track. Would you mind clearing it up?

I saw this on Reddit yesterday. As Disregardable pointed out, what this guy does on one account doesn't affect his other accounts. As far as tracking his accounts, it's not as easy as you might think. You have to remember that there are quite a few (myself included) who use VPN's. All I would have to do is make a new e-mail address, and bam, you really have no way of tracking my account.

IP bans also don't do a lot in this situation, there are several problems here. First is, if you ban out 1 IP address, you could ban out entire dorms or internet cafes. People who use VPN's would not be affected by an IP ban. And if you have people in the same household who share a computer, that would cause problems as well.

This isn't a new problem, in fact it's been a problem for a really long time. If you want a real nutcase, look up XJ9. In case you don't know, or is someone else is reading this tread, XJ9 was considered one of the best junglers in LoL. He has had multiple accounts banned, and at one point, posted revenge porn on his then girlfriend. He posted those pics because she played Lee Sin. Anywho, Riot has a standing order to ban all of his accounts on sight. The problem is, if you go to his Facebook page, he blatantly advertises his elo boosting service. I have no doubt that Riot knows about his service, but because of the VPN he uses, there's no real way to ban him.

All that being said, I really wish there was something that Riot could do to ban out the guy in the VOD that you posted above. He actually posted on his twitch that he has 8 permabanned accounts. That notepad at the end, that's some fucked up shit.
