Why perma ban instead of perma chat ban?

Hello, after getting permanently banned three times (Yes i'm toxic) i asked myself why am i getting permanently account banned for being toxic instead of a permanent chat ban since i didn't get banned for, scripting or running it down. So a permanent chat ban would stop most people from making a new account and keep on flaming since you still have your account you still have your rank you still have your skins, and instead of a 14 day account ban you get a 14 day chat ban.

You could argue as the support i spoke with (Yadon) did saying that you already have options to turn the chat of. BUT you can turn the chat on again as fast as you turned it of, ofc it stops some people from being toxic but it doesn't stop all the players from being toxic since you can turn it of that easy. And let's say you really don't want to implement this new chat ban system, at least make it so you can't turn your chat of or on once you're in game since that would also stop people from being toxic if you already have the chat turned of.

Thanks for reading this // I SUCK [slayer-jinx-catface]

Please look at the posts on this board. This is thrown around several times a week. It's not going to happen. Ever. Riot's tried this, it doesn't work because believe it or not - people who are toxic will find ways to be toxic that don't involve chat. You're a repeat offender...3 permabanned accounts? You've proven that you don't want to reform, so how is removing chat going to prevent you from flying off the handle and ruining a game?

You should be focusing on reforming and controlling your actions in-game.

And Also, permabanning someone from a free game doesnt do anything

In the past Riot tried long-term chat bans, and it resulted in an unacceptably large increase in non-chat toxicity from those players who had chat bans. Enough players who want to be toxic will find ways to do so that it's simply more efficient to remove people from the community when they show they have no interest in following the rules.

Because perma chat bans caused players to express themselves in even more damaging ways, like trolling and griefing.

They tried this, when people couldnt flame they just trolled.

Basically Nothing works to stop the trolling.

You just have to suffer with it if you play this game.

Also I have made SOOOOO many posts recommending this crap years ago. They will all tell you to be quiet and stop because it TAINT NEVA GON Happen pal.

Okey so a lot of people are saying ''they will find new ways to be toxic'' well then perma ban their acc i acctualy don't see the problem with having a separate ban for being toxic, runing it down and hacking. And if you actually red the post you would see that i wrote ''Make it so you can't turn your chat of or on once you're in game '' since that's also one way to prevent toxic behavior once ingame

Ty and please read the post!

Why are we banning people for using the chat in a toxic way when There are 3 mute buttons? Just a thought

Riot's punishment system used to hand out stacking chat restrictions, such that consistently toxic players basically had a permanent chat restriction. Unfortunately, it turns out that such players used their few chat opportunities to be toxic, and, when they couldn't be as toxic as they wanted to, they resorted to committing non-chat offenses such as griefing (following someone around and taking their farm, using wall abilities to interfere with their play, etc.) or inting. The purpose of the punishment system is to eliminate rule-breaking, not make it worse. Thus, if a couple chat restrictions don't make any difference in a player's misbehavior, the system ramps up the punishments until the player is permabanned and thus unable to use that account to break any more rules ever again.

Because when Riot tried it, the vast majority of players who had "infinite" chat bans just trolled/griefed their teams instead when they couldn't chat.

I put "infinite" in quotation marks because it wasn't really infinite, but thousands of games - basically infinite for any normal player.

The problem isn't the chat - the problem is the attitude that it is okay to ruin another player's in game experience for any reason.

While Necromancy may be handy (and sometimes needed) in media, it is not the case for old forum threads. Please avoid using such magic and be mindful of how old threads are before posting.

Feel free to contact us at the Moderation Discord or at Discuss the Boards for any questions, comments or concerns about this. Thank you and have a good day.

P.S. From Riot Tantram:

It really breaks down into two categories.

1.) Helping players reform 2.) Shielding others from the behavior, at a cost.

We used to issue chat restrictions that essentially scaled indefinitely.

We were able to determine that after a certain point the penalty no longer helped with reform. The 10-game and 25-game counts for chat restrictions are based on data that they were both light enough, and felt strict enough to encourage people to understand their behavior is unacceptable in game and change it.

We also saw that the players in this 'large restriction' category defaulted to gameplay altering means of harassing their team. It caused an increase in feeding and trolling.

The sample size of this population and time frame is huge. Essentially the time spanning from the introduction of chat restrictions to the introduction of IFS.

So my question for you is, would you rather have more feeders and less negative chat?

This was just with infinite chat restrictions, so imagine how much worse it’d be with actual perma-mutes. If someone isn't gonna behave properly despite being given multiple chances to do so then why shouldn't they be removed from the game?
