Video games is the only competitive sporting scene where talking shit is extremely frowned upon.

More so than actually harmful behavior, actually, which is sad.

There are more punishments handed out for talking shit and flame than there is for serious behavior that harms the game. Inting, AFK, cheating, all massively less.

Im not talking about racial slurs, or telling someone to kill themself or something. Nobody wants that anywhere. Im talking about "you're fucking trash", in a scene where its MOST EXPECTED because of being pit with randos, is considered bannable/restrictable.

This is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. Talking shit is part of a competitive environment and natural human behavior. "Im better than you" has always been a part of any game ever and to exclude it from specifically video games makes me laugh.

Especially when that flame is justified. When someone runs it down mid and you call them trash, you'll still be punished for it. This is the type of no tolerance garbage that leads to a kid being suspended for fighting back against his bully defending himself.

Like come on.

There shall be no unsportsmanlike conduct. This applies to any act which is contrary to the generally understood principles of sportsmanship. Such acts specifically include, among others:

a. Throwing a punch, or a forearm, or kicking at an opponent, even though no contact is made. b. Using abusive, threatening, or insulting language or gestures to opponents, teammates, officials, or representatives of the League. c. Using baiting or taunting acts or words that may engender ill will between teams. d. Any violent gesture, or an act that is sexually suggestive or offensive. e. Prolonged or excessive celebrations or demonstrations by an individual player or multiple players. f. Using any object as a prop, or possessing any foreign or extraneous object(s) that are not part of the uniform on the field or the sideline during the game, other than the football after a scoring play or change of possession. g. Unnecessary physical contact with a game official. h. Removal of his helmet by a player in the field of play or the end zone during a celebration or demonstration, or during a confrontation with a game official or any other player.

There is a difference between Trash Talking and Talking like Trash. One is more playful and banter. The other is more of a harassing tool.

I did a quick google. I selected the first sport that came to mind; tennis, and googled: tennis player punished.

There were results for example this and this. Also, some links had something to do with Serena William's language use towards the umpire and her losing a match because of that (or something - I don't really know tennis). Since there is at least one other sport that punishes players for their language use, the OP's claim at the title is false.

Yeah no. Even in traditional sports you're still expected to behave with at least some level of maturity, common sense, decency and sportsmanship or face the penalties for it. From Ulanopo's Knowledge Base:

Trash talk is part of all competitive sports. It happens all the time in the pros.

Yes and no. Yes, trash talk occurs, but it has definite limits. Most of the things that are punished in game (racial, ethnic and homophobic slurs, sexism, etc.) would also earn you a hefty fine in professional sports.

A Tumblr List of NBA Fines (http://nbafines.tumblr.com/) (My personal favorite on that site is this indefinite suspension (http://nbafines.tumblr.com/post/1010368028/3-12-96-the-nba-suspended-mahmoud-abdul-rauf-den), simply for refusing to stand during the National Anthem.)

A List of NFL Fines for Taunting (https://operations.nfl.com/football-ops/fines-appeals/)

NBC Article on Fines Agreed to by the NFLPA (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/12/01/bizarrely-specific-nfl-fines-come-from-agreed-league-union-schedule/) "Excessive profanity or other unsportsmanlike conduct triggers a minimum fine of $10,500."

NHL Office of Player Safety (http://www.nhl.com/ice/eventhome.htm?location=/playersafety) Brendan Shanahan is the ****ing Bad Santa of the NHL. Did you know that his Office of Player Safety watches every minute of every game, from multiple angles? He sees and hears EVERYTHING, including swearing.

... and the grand finale! Marge Schott (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marge_Schott), who was forced out of ownership of the Cincinnati Reds for racist comments and pro-Nazi sentiments.

Also, professional LoL players and organizations have received fines and/or bans for poor conduct, such as Ddossing, trolling and threats, so it's not that it goes unpunished, it just takes longer since the intent to ruin other peoples experiences has to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt first.
