Reform Chat Banning

How about this, just a quick idea. Instead of banning someone permanently from game for "toxicity" why not we remove their ability to talk in game? that way it will solve the issue at hand. i see the business aspect of this decision they made, as it keeps the league community feeling abundant both in pre-30 stages of the game. Also why not promote a system in the game that allows you to vote to mute someone, similar to what dota has, seeing as league already has gotten a ton of inspiration from them. This onslaught of toxicity in the community stems from the chat ban system, and the ability to punish those you dont like simply by having a group of friends or allies get together to spam all chat with "report ____ toxic" even if the only thing you did was say something in defense. This is just my thoughts, because as you may already know, most of the people tht get chat banned arent really toxic enough to get there accounts banned.

Riot tried this, actually. It didn't work reliably enough for them to implement it, as too great a majority simply persisted in finding in-game ways of trolling other players. It's constantly brought up as a "solution", and Riot has said many times that they're not really interested in it, because their data shows it doesn't accomplish what they'd want to accomplish (and because they'd rather toxic players simply not play League).

That's not how it works -- the system doesn't care if you get 1 vote or 9. As long as you get 1, the game is flagged. But the system is pretty good at filtering out false positives.

even if the only thing you did was say something in defense.

"In defense" is not a justifiable excuse for toxicity, given that the options "mute them" and "simply don't type anything back" both exist.

I've been reported (or at least people have told me they have reported me) probably hundreds of times by now. very very few of those reports, held any merit. I have never been chat banned. The system does not ban false positives as frequently as you seem to think they do.

If you get a chat ban, chances are you deserve it. And if you get chat banned, then hey that one person is already enabling your idea of removing chat from the game, just from themselves. I see no need for such a ridiculous change.
