[Guide] How to hide chat in client (as well as appear incognito)

#What is this guides purpose?

In this boards post, i'm basically going to give you guys some pretty simple instructions to block the league of legends client chat server. i can only confirm will work for NA, as i cant test for other reigons.

#Why would i need to block lol chat IP's? and what do they have to do with harassment in client? well, to put it simply, blocking it can solve two problems:

  • ever been annoyed by constant invites from either friends or randoms, but just want to play alone? by blocking outbound connections to the client chat, you appear to your friends as offline unless you're already in a lobby with them. this serves as an incognito mode if you just don't want to be bothered.

  • Secondly, and most beautifully, it blocks ALL forms of chat that goes on in-client. this means you no longer have to sit through any more pre-game lobby flaming or trolling and harassment, as well as never having to suffer LOL GGEZ BRONZE NOOB in post lobby, which is honestly a feature many of us have asked for (muting carrying over to post game lobby). in addition, if you have had a history of being perhaps a bit too forward, so to speak when talking to allies post lobby, this prevents you from both seeing and speaking, thus in a way helping to facilitate reform.

note however:

  • you can still send outgoing invites for friends to join you, so say if you politely declined one person but don't want to be rude, you can just use this and invite someone else.

  • this will NOT mute everyone once the game actually starts. however, once the game starts you can still type "/mute all" and bam, you are never bothered anywhere on the rift. you would actually be surprised how calm the game gets when no one is talking. both in and out of game, you remain tilt free (from the chat perspective).

#Is this bannable, because its affecting the game?

that's also a pretty big plus, because it doesn't interact with the client or its files in any way, shape or form. this basically sets your own windows machine's firewall to block the connections itself. this would be no different if you did it from a router instead. i've also got a transcript for a ticket i made just in case, available on request.

without further ado, here's how its done:

Create a new text document. anywhere will do. copy/paste this line of text into it:

netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="lolchat" dir=out remoteip=XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX protocol=TCP action=block

replace XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX with these numbers, corresponding to your region:

NA: 192.64.174.69 EUW: 185.40.64.69 EUNE: 185.40.64.111

make sure to NOT put a space after the equal sign after remoteip when typing!

click file -> save as:

Ill Be Right Under Their Noses.bat

create another text document, and copy/paste the following into it:

netsh advfirewall firewall delete rule name="lolchat"

click file -> save as

SURPRISE I WAS HIDING.bat

in order to appear offline, go to "Ill Be Right Under Their Noses.bat", right click, then run as administrator. cmd will pop up maybe a second later, but it will be confirmed to work. if your client is currently open while doing this, it will take a minute before it updates to reflect the change.

to appear offline, do the same for the other file.

this is really weird but i guess it might help some people?

the sad thing about this is: instead of just allowing us to be "hidden" and carry mute over in the postgame lobby, people have to come up with this shit cause riot is a bunch of lazy fucks

a much simpler solution is to drag chat box off screen during the game (optional: also unbind chat key). that way you cannot see others flame you nor you flame back at them.
