What has HAPPENED to this community?

It's really an incredibly simple question that I must reiterate; what in the world has happened to this community?

When I started this game years ago 95% of the players whom you might come up against or play with were chit-chatting, generally friendly or otherwise neutral players. Of course, now and again you got that ONE jerk that would go on for a while and get upset or troll, but they were few and far between instances. Lately? Those numbers have almost completely flipped; it's horrendous.

I can hardly play an ARAM these days without needing to mute multiple players for spamming chat, flaming everyone, going deep-set psychotic on players, and just generally just being pieces of human debris worthy of euthanasia. That is if you want to even call them human, I certainly question that identification for these individuals. It seems to be a generational thing, you see the same kind of flippant narcissism in real life from my own and the "newest" generation, it's most definitely deteriorating on a whole psychologically - but of course in real life there are consequences for your actions more often than not. I can understand having a bad game, I can understand just needing to vent for a moment (else I wouldn'tbe here at the forums writing you this novel.) but for the love of all, would you immature, hormone-driven children learn to control yourselves? No matter your age, if you act like a raging hormone 14 year old school bully picking on people because you feel horrible about your life, you're going to be called out for it. Knock the hormones back a peg? Drop the arrogant, trolling nonsense? Is that too much to ask? Hell, who knows, if you act like a decent human being, maybe you'll find other decent human beings to have fun with that isn't at the expense of others just trying to have a good time.

I've got more friends than I can count who have quit this game completely entirely due to the absolutely toxic player community. And in the end, I don't blame them a bit! It's a team game, and you repeatedly get matched up with absolute garbage. I don't care if you do poorly, I don't care if we lose, but do it with some decency! You can be angry, you can be upset, but you don't have to lose control and take it out on everyone around you. Self control and maturity are magical things. Again, horrendous is the word that comes to mind when I think of most players I come across in this game in regards to their behavior. How are these people still in the community? Because Riot feels it more important to keep possible customers in the community than to push them out, possibly take a slight, temporary potential financial loss, and remove absolutely reliably toxic players? If they were being removed and banned as much as is claimed, if it was as effective as they say, then after this many years, we wouldn't have so many and the behavior would change.

Riot, what you are doing is not working and it's destroying your community. No matter how big, how popular you get, or how much money you bring in (you're a business, after all) an absolutely toxic community such as this is not sustainable in the long run. Plenty before you have fallen, so please, don't feel like you're too large to take a blow.

When your numbers claim A, but people reliably experience B, only the most uneducated, unintelligent, gullible fools are going to believe A and ignore the facts and reality of B. Correlates to our current political state in the world in general, but hey, that's a discussion for another thread...

LoL community, please step it up a notch for all of our benefit.

I'm certain you've heard of the GIFT theory? If not, see below.

Now add in that nearly all of the children, teens and even 20-somethings playing the game each believe themselves the center of the universe, incapable of being wrong and unconcerned about anyone but themselves and a handful of irl friends and you get a seething pot of the most toxic, rude, trolling, disrespectful and intentionally rude people known to man. Offending people makes them happy and acting like the worst sorts of human beings gets them no real reprisal. In fact, many of them do it because they can't in their real lives.

I too have had friends who refuse to touch this game because the community is utter garbage. It sucks. If you still want to play it... (A VERY large "if" for me sometimes), then do what I do. At the start of EVERY match... /mute all. No exceptions. No "I'll see if this one is bad then do it". Just mute each and every person the moment the match starts. I've found that chat in general isn't really worth having active at all. It's hardly ever used for anything but flaming, toxic behavior or just intentional attempts to provoke people. Get rid of it.

It's the GhostCrawler effect and it's the newer generation of teens who are crazy and emo.

They've all been playing Riven. She corrupts even the purest soul. Stay away from Riven.
