Eh... I legit didn't ban Jhin in the ranked game I played today (and no one did) explicitly because no one on my team made it their intent (and I was the ADC). The other team didn't ban it either and no one played it. Maybe because people figured no one would be crazy enough to try a new champion in ranked on day 1?
Anyways, I was only slightly worried the enemy would pick him. It's relatively easy to not feed a champion you don't know by just being extremely cautious if you fall behind at all. One the other hand, it's extremely easy to feed as a champion you don't know.
Hence, I more fear my allies playing a new champion than my enemies. Also, I think this overall behavior should be sending Riot a message: MOST PLAYERS DON'T WANT MORE CHAMPIONS. They ask us again and again in those surveys if League has too many champions, they admit that the barrier to entry of league is too high, etc... and yet they keep releasing more champions, and worse those champions keep getting more complicated...
Ah, rant over. Anyways, play bots on him for the first day or two. Then tell your normals team that you've played him a few times already and know how to play him so don't worry. Then see how it goes. Don't just try to pick a new champion in to PvP on your first try with him. Even if it wasn't a new champion, your first try on a champion should never be PvP. I don't care if you're a challenger player, you're playing people in your own elo and you're going to be much worse on a champion you don't know. At least get used to their attack animation (for last hitting) and their combos in bots before going to even normals...
