An open letter to Riot Player Behavior development

Dear Riot, As a player who hopes to one day compete at the highest levels of League of Legends I believe that the leaver-buster system does not do enough to deter a player from leaving the game or AFKing.
Here is what I see when people quit: The player is fed up with the team and or does not communicate well with the rest of the team: In an example, a gank was misplayed or not made one or more times. The player then decides that it is best for them to AFK because "Their team is useless" Mind you I am lower ELO and this happens all the time. They either decide to feed and intentionally throw the game or AFK and or AFK farm and essentially quit playing with the team and playing to win.

I find that the leaver buster system does not effectively deter player behavior like this and seems like a "slap on the wrist" take this with a grain of salt but here are a few suggestions I have for the leaver buster and PB development.

If a player has left the game once out of either rage or flaming teammates, I know you can pull the chat logs. Assign a warning along with a LOWER not quite low priority Que. If it was a ranked game, extend the penalty for about 10 games. Lower priority que meaning 10 minutes before que time begins.

My take on quitting/afking in a ranked game is this. I believe that the quitters should be branded with a mark and the system informs summoners, "Hey this guy quit a game recently because he was tilted, you may want to elect to dodge this game because if you do bad they'll rage quit." the only way to remove this brand would to display 40 straight games of reform and full play throughout each game.

Quitting in my opinion should not be an option in ranked games or in league at all. Yes I understand life happens and circumstances may happen, in that case there will be an appeals section to overturn the ruling. However the evidence must be provided that you did not quit out of rage or spite of what a team was doing and the quitting must be sufficiently backed up with no room for doubt.

If you quit because the cards are not in favor, you will not only quit at a video game, you will quit in other aspects of life. A lot of people underestimate the impact a "Video game" will have on a person's development mentally. We should be discouraging quitting with the highest priority especially during a ranked matchmaking game due to this being one of the only ways for a person to possibly compete at the highest level.

Lastly, Extend the ability to remake the game to 5 minutes within the game, I find that even with the 3-minute timer sometimes it does not give ample time for a remake in the case of a disconnect or what have you.

I welcome any criticisms or opinions, I only ask for this to be a clean and decent discussion(though I know League in game and sometimes out of game isn't exactly clean or civil). If you've made it this far, I thank you sincerely for reading my rant and seeing that I'm obviously tilted and wish for something to change in the mindset of League in both competitive and casual play. I think you can learn a lot from League and we should be doing the most to foster that.

Thank you Sincerely, Robert "PxndaLoL" Sta-Ana

but how can you differentiate between someone who isp pooped out, family emergency, hurricane/tornado hit right on their front door, someone ran into the local power pole, etc. from someone rage quitting? Sure you can probably catch some idiots who brag/rant about going afk (eventually they will learn to keep their mouth shut), but how do you catch someone who simply alt-tab force close and someone hit the off button on the power strip by accident? Putting a heavy punishment for the first few times seem very harsh and more often than not unnecessary punished people with legitimate reason to afk for reason beyond their control.

You will have equal number of people come whine on this board about being excessively punished for shit they cannot control just because they afk one time.

It must be really difficult to find a balance between too harsh and too lenient. Others have the opposite belief of your's, so its like, who to please?

"Hey this guy quit a game recently because he was tilted, you may want to elect to dodge this game because if you do bad they'll rage quit."

I agree with you entirely, but this is never going to happen because Riot places queue times above game quality. It's the reason you have to bail out of the client to dodge, rather than having a sane exit button.

I'd gladly suffer 5 minutes extra queue per game if it meant I was less likely to be matched with a leaver or someone with a chat restrict.

Honestly, if a team is notified someone's a leaver, you're basically destroying teamwork BEFORE THE GAME STARTS. Everyone will be prejudiced against them... how can you expect a team like that to work together?

Hey everyone, I wanted to thank you all for any feedback or comments you have posted here. I really appreciate it! For the most part things have been very civil and there have been lots of points made. Keep it up!
