Not all toxic behavior should be reported

So just got out of a game where someone on my team was pretty toxic. BMing and taking his/her rage out on anything and everything. At the end of the game he/she said somethings that made me decide not to report the person. They apologized. No one mentioned anything about a report being made so I felt it was a genuine apology. He/she went on and on about how they were in the wrong and what he/she did was uncalled for. I felt moved, and thought if they were human enough to apologize and see what they did was wrong, there is hope for them yet. I can't say about the rest of my team choosing not to report the person, but for me, I'm giving the person a second chance.

Excellent. This is why the punishment system is based on reports rather than fully automated by content: if you decide that you believe it was all in jest and not toxic enough to be unacceptable, or you believe a player had a bad day and apologized sufficiently to make you forgive them and their behavior, there is no need to report them. Sending in a report is at a player's own discretion, so I encourage you to use or not use that feature as you see fit.

Agreed. I personally report all toxic behaviors that I encounter unless I can sense a "Genuine Apology" because no one is perfect. I know I got upset a few games and may have talked more than needed but I also do know that I apologized in game and post game just because I remember this is a video game. There is also a limit to how you can forgive which depends on each case.

Yeah, me and team mates have gotten on bad terms before, and after a while we tend to apologize to each other. I don't report them and since I haven't been punished I guess they don't report me. Sometimes people just need to vent a bit I guess and get their anger out of them.

I get what you are saying, but at the same time i dont think that all they would need to do is say sorry and that means all the stuff they did in game is now ok. I mean you are basically saying i can be as toxic as possible, telling you to die, using every single slur. But as long as i say sorry after the match its ok?

I have never had anyone apologize after the game. They just continue to try to belittle everyone.

except just imagine if your team had a report troll. "or even the enemy team, as you occasionally can get "blind" reports from the enemy team. if 1 report truly is the same as 9. 1 salty player or troll is enough to have gotten the person the OP is describing banned.
