Couple of tips if you want to avoid punishment because of toxicity
Look, we're all human. everyone tilts, but some handle it better then others. some people like me just rage at the keyboard, others fine serenity in just taking a deep breath, and some of us just stop playing entirely until we are off tilt. but everyone lets, even if just a tiny amount, a bit of toxicity into the chat when they're tilted. being angry is a natural state, but it actually can become a problem if you let said toxicity trickle down to your keyboard. while maybe one or two insults may flow by unnoticed, punishment sucks when you feel like you're in the right, (albeit maybe overboard at proving your point).
firstly, just know you're more likely to tilt if you're:
-
Tired being tired has been proven to make people far more easily agitated, and in some cases even aggressive. so try not to pull league until 3 AM marathons, its not good for your health, or play skill
-
Hungry fluctuations in blood sugar caused by being hungry releases stress signals to your body, so again, much more likely to tilt and/or react poorly to the simplest of things.
-
On a huge win streak going on a huge win streak doesn't only overinflate your LP, but your ego. huge win streaks are usually followed by large loss streaks, to which you would tilt because you aren't receiving the same satisfaction you were before. instinctively, you'll try and find the odd factor out, but the most prominent one is going to be that 0/10 at 10 minuet ADC you notice in a few games, thus, your rage begins, you flame them, and of course, IFS

so always try and get an ample amount of rest, eat well, and try not to make yourself believe you're a challenger smurf because you've suddenly been stomping. staying level headed and humble is the key to not getting a swelled head.
Next, I want to get into the ranked mentality. while I'm not saying you should treat it like normal games, try and have a degree of seriousness to it, but never treat it as everything. once you start treating it as of nothing else matters, more often then not you're gonna take that -20LP way harder then you actually should have. I'm definitely not saying to NOT have a competitive spirit, just remember:
- are you playing for money (gambling, albeit very unhealthy)?
- are you playing for an official competition (complete with prize + bragging rights)?
- are you tyler1?
if the answer to all 3 is a firm no, then under no circumstances should you take it as a "do or die" and overexert yourself, because all you're doing is setting yourself up to fail, and then following up with rage.
Thirdly, all-chat. all-chat is fun for bits of banter with the enemy team, but if you hop into a ranked game regularly, its in your best interest to turn it off. not because I don't enjoy fun banter with all players In the game, but because in a ranked setting, everyone is playing to win. therefore, the enemy team isn't going to help you, after all, they want LP at the end of the game. in a competitive scene like this, the only thing that you're gonna see is a GGEZ from the enemy team, among other insults that I'm not allowed to say because boards rules. leaving it on is just ASKING to get insulted and tilt you, so why risk it? tilting the enemy is actually a legit (albeit douchy) strategy, so why give them that advantage? every second all chat is off is another tick you get further from exploding.
but the reason I say just turn off all chat instead of /muteall is because you still absolutely need the communication of your teammates. you cant know they are actually toxic until they begin speaking to you. once they have made you decently agitated, (but not full on tilt mode) then its time to mute, before you reach that state.
Continuing from my last point, try and find advice behind the flame. remember, even if its self defense, flaming back is still punishable. so rather then replying "YOU TOXIC F%%%%% I BET THATS WHY YOUR G%% %%S GOT BOOSTED TO PLAT" to the guy who says "YOU RETARTED S%%% DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT WARDS ARE YOU 0/10 BRONZIE", try and find the reason behind them saying that.
granted, there are 988,986 words in the English language, and they could have put it in millions of other ways, think of why they said it, because there is always a little bit of truth to flame. so rather then replying in frustration, ignore the flame, but take that specific example as "I should probably be placing more defensive wards to spot out ganks, and hug that side of the lane".
Next, although it might seem like a good idea to try and de-tilt your teammates, remember, you're there for yourself, not emotional support, so you take care of your own. more often then not, if you tell a teammate whose tilted to calm down, its the equivalent of telling a woman who is raging "just calm down"
now I'm not saying don't try, but if after 3 replies they haven't stopped, chances are they are that way for good, so its best to just mute them before they something sour to you. again, you flame back, and you'll be in player behavior for..... other reasons.
Lastly, learn to play other roles. granted this is a bit beyond toxicity, and I implore you guys to not
the champ select, your gonna meet the die-hard mid or feed AS crit annie jungles during champ select. of course, this is the de-facto way to tilt 4 people at once, and its either someone sacrifices LP or the enemy team wins freelo. but these guys you have to treat as terrorists. you don't do what a terrorist says? you die. so you DO WHAT THE HELL THEY TELL YOU. I know, to most, this seems counter-intuitive, considering your giving someone who is clearly in the wrong the satisfaction of getting a role they weren't able to get, but think of it this way:
is it really worth losing 3-20 LP just because someone is a prissy
"god" top?
and more often then not, ones who threaten champ select are one tricks, so giving them any other role is most probably gonna end with them feeding anyway, making a potentially winnable match more in the enemy's favor. for this, you'll just have to suck it up to not completely go overboard. this goes a bit beyond what you type, but you all know damn well you're immediately gonna type "/all report x for trolling" but in the 30 seconds you first met each other, you tilted, so this probably isn't gonna be the best person you're gonna want to hear.
while I'm on the topic of champ select though, if someone bans your hovered champ, think of your pick order. if your maining a super broken champ, then you should expect to be able to play someone besides them, because unless you're first pick, you shouldn't expect to play that champ. if I want to play vayne bot, but my top wants to ban her, but unfortunately for me, im last pick, then it should be expected that I don't get that champion, because either the enemy team is gonna ban her, or someone on the enemy team is gonna pick her. and if my top cant play well into vayne, then why should they risk their lane, and possibly the game? usually its much better to just let them play into someone they are more comfortable fighting then someone whose going to stir up a s%$# storm for them for the next 0-30 minuets
These are some of the better ways I've personally helped maintain non-tilt and therefore avoid punishment, so I hope I shared something useful with all of you out there who struggle to stay level headed when it gets rough out there
Good luck on the Rift, and be the most chill bro you can be [galio-happy]
