In the Advent of Ally Chat Disable; Unperma ban chat offenders 1 time?

I've been pushing for a self mute for about 5 years.

We finally have one in our account settings.

A large portion of the problems with this community are a direct result of the discipline used against simple misdemeanor chat violations (getting angry at teams performing poorly, responding to people who are toxic to you.

A large reason why this problem existed, was because of the impulse MOST people have to respond in some way, and the inability to stop the message from being sent, other than "willpower;" Something this game's target market generally lacks.

So; We have a lot of accounts that are taking up space, with perma bans, old friend lists we cannot access/couldn't track after a ban.

Wouldn't it be an interesting experiment to unlock the accounts ONCE (only ones with chat bans and not ones with violent context), with Ally chat disable setting enabled, and see how many players actually keep the setting on, and don't become repeat offenders?

**Note: **I do have a personal stake in this suggestion, and I'd be lying otherwise; I have 7 different Victorious skins, over $3000 in spending, and some untarnished MMR status on some of the accounts. I also have over 90+ Friends that a ban just "poofed." It'd be ludicrous for me to say I didn't have a stake.

BUT..... I have other accounts, all paid and mostly refitted with all that stuff (but the friends) too. I'm making this suggestion for the general health of the community.

Getting a 1 chance opportunity would mean:

-People who can exist under the ally chat disable condition would eventually reform their accounts, not be trolling/griefing in other ways. -People who cannot would not be a burden to Riot's Discipline system for long; An offense would result in another ban, unless somehow we're talking years later and all the demerits are off the account. -More original names. Less Bot names caused by the lack of original content still not used.

Players get booted from competitive physical sports for poor behavior and rule breaking, too, so please don't try to use that excuse.

If anything, those penalties are harsher than League, since they can't just change identity (make a new account) and continue competing.

I would like to see evidence that the problems with the community are directly caused by the punishments issued for flaming and retaliating.

I don't think it's the punishments that are the cause of the community's problems, but the community itself - people cannot control themselves and will flame and harass people for doing poorly, and retaliate and act like they're protecting their honor from being impinged by some random stranger they don't know.

A large reason why this problem existed, was because of the impulse MOST people have to respond in some way, and the inability to stop the message from being sent, other than "willpower;" Something this game's target market generally lacks.

Considering that Riot's estimate puts permabanned players at roughly 0.06% of the overall playerbase, it's probably safe to assume that the actual amount of general problem players overall is relatively small as well - a whole-number percentage, almost certainly, but not enough to say "most people".

Even still, this statement indicates that it's the players who are the problem, not the punishments.

So; We have a lot of accounts that are taking up space, with perma bans, old friend lists we cannot access/couldn't track after a ban.

I don't understand how this constitutes a valid argument. If they are taking up space, it clearly doesn't seem to be negatively affecting Riot's ability to do anything.

Interesting? Yes. Worthwhile? Probably not. They already had the Level 20 Challenge way back when in the time of the Tribunal, and they also very recently had the NA Unban Experiment last year, and in general, we shouldn't expect them to try any similar such experiments again.

Even with a very carefully selected group of players, there is a tangible cost both in the potential damage those players could do after their unban, and the cost of keeping tabs on those players to collect data. And with there having been the experiment just last year, I think it's safe to say that it's too soon to consider starting a new one.

BUT..... I have other accounts, all paid and mostly refitted with all that stuff (but the friends) too. I'm making this suggestion for the general health of the community.

I wouldn't say it's for the general health of the community if only 0.06% of the playerbase get direct benefit from it.

Besides, we're talking about players who, for one reason or another, flouted the rules time and again, ignoring warning after warning, chat restriction after chat restriction, even ignoring the 14-day ban where you're explicitly told "Any further misbehavior will result in a permanent suspension." - players who don't care about other players, players who don't care about Riot or the rules, players who don't genuinely care about their accounts - or some combination of it.

They've already had upwards of three separate chances. There's no compelling reason that they deserve another.

You have poor taste in friends if 90+ of them have been permabanned.

Also, Riot has tried unbanning accounts. Last year. It didn't work out. Why is having only 1 button to press vs 5 significant to them running the experiment again? Oh wait, it's not.

More like a large portion of the discipline being dealt is due to the problems some of the people have in this community. I believe you had it backwards.
