A theory on toxicity.

Obviously there's psychology behind raging that comes from kind of knowing that your lane is going to be much harder to deal with if you die first, especially if your jungler fail ganks and you both die. And also from the inevitable pings and flame you'll receive from teammates.

I was also wondering your(and when I say your, I mean the community) thoughts on when you die your death screen goes grey. Does a grey screen compel someone to rage more? or be toxic. Seems to be a domino effect and the first piece to get knocked down is the grey screen, followed by all that I mentioned above.

Here’s my theory, if I say, “take that camp and I’ll run it down for the rest of the game”, and they take it. I’m gonna run it down for the rest of the game. I’m not toxic, I’m not even mad, I’m just a man of my word. Yet I get permabanned.

Well obviously dying in League is a big part of it because maybe it could make you feel like you failed, especially when people flame you and spam question mark ping you. But the grey screen could also make you feel shut out from whats happening.

I trend towards apathy rather than raging. Basically if I go into lane and it's 0 - 0 the game has my full attention. As soon as we as a team start collectively losing though I just detach emotionally more and more. This is reflected in whatever is on my second display. When the gamestarts it's usually my champion.gg page for whatever champion I'm playing. 0-3 in lane: Spotify. Tier 1 towers destroyed, down 20 kills and several objectives and team doesn't want to surrender? Youtube.

I think there might have been a time where I could tilt, but after playing for a year I think I've internalized that it really doesn't matter enough to effect my internal ecosystem and that goes for either response to unwinnable games. Tilting because you want to win so badly OR being a toxic butthole in chat or inting because you're behind are both equally stupid to me. If I'm gonna lose I choose to soften the blow by lowering my level of engagement which is ultimately why people tilt in MOBAS. BEcause there is an overabundance of investment and very little self reflection on what's important. Chilling out and playing a video game you enjoy.
