Reforming Toxic Behavior (For those who actually can, AND DO, change)

Now, before I go into detail I am going to start with this: I was permanently banned recently and I completely 100% deserved the ban. I can't argue with Riots decision on that. However, on the same token, I wanted to discuss the possibility of Riot considering to release the account of those who exhibit reform, exceptional behavior, and overall positive change. I am not here to excuse my own behavior, or the behaviors of others. I am not trying to convince anyone that I didn't deserve my ban. What I am asking is if it's possible for a player to ever, at any point in time get their account unbanned. My account meant so much to me. I put it in jeopardy by choosing to be toxic. Now that its gone, I am heartbroken. I am a smack-talker. I tend to joke around (probably a bit too harsh) with my team and the enemy team. But there were times that I just got too carried away or too out of hand and didn't take the warnings that Riot gave me serious enough. I thought I was okay because I never truly thought of myself as a toxic person. You always want to justify your actions by trying to put blame on someone else. It was another player! They were toxic to me first! They deserved what I said, they were 2/18 as Yasuo in the first 18 minutes. Whatever the reason may be, there is no excuse for it. I realize that now. Unfortunately, I realized it far too late. I've had this account for years. It is the account I met the love of my life on (my now fiance). We literally met on league of legends, played every day together, talked every day and over the course of 3 years we started dating, moved in together, and are engaged. We have every matching skin the game, we have matching names, and can be annoyingly cute about it. We never hesitate to give Riot the credit for bringing us together. That sentimental value, plus everything put into the account is nothing something I can get back simply by creating a new account.

I have changed a lot. Permanent bans are completely different than temporary bans. With temp bans, there is an end date. You can sit and wait, but you know on this date, and this time, you will get to play again. There is no time to wait with perm bans. I honestly want to know what other people's opinion on this matter is. Both players and Riot team. Do you feel permanently banning accounts really prevents toxic players? Do you think that people CAN change and CAN learn from their mistakes? Also, would you ever consider giving someone their account back after they've showed signs of reform and change? I'm not talking about a person faking being "nice" for a few games and trying to get their account back. I mean someone who completely changed and is now not only a positive member of the community, but also encourages positive behavior and tries to get those who are toxic to reform as well. Instead of just saying in a game "I'm going to report you", try to really spread these ideas. I would love to be able to prove to Riot that I am a better person, and that I do deserve my account to be unbanned (with whatever amount of time Riot finds reasonable). This is just food for thought.

Thanks everyone for reading! :)

People certainly can change, they just usually don't. A while back riot hand picked a bunch of perma banned players they thought had a high chance of reform and gave them another chance and the overwhelming majority reoffended(I think it was 95%). With a recidivism rate that high the risk of giving another chance just far outweighs the potential benefits.

I hope you have learned and changed, I really do. But I am not interested in accepting the 19 people who are going to reoffend to allow the 1 guy who is going to to reform.

The point of the punishment system is to alert players that their behavior needs immediate reform. You're given several warnings before your ban. That was your chance to show reform, and you chose not to. You were aware of the consequences. A permanent ban is permanent. You can't talk your way out of it.

I write this to let you know that yes, people do in fact agree with the current system.

Yeah, for all the misery that people like you caused other players, I personally would prefer that RIOT not give you back your account just because you say you are reformed. It's like a mass murderer asking to have his gun back later because; "it was a really nice gun and since I've learned my lesson I won't shoot any more people with it anyway".
