Pros and Cons to Honor Requirement for Ranked Que

I'm not troll posting, I'm simply thinking out loud and would like to discuss such a system hypothetically. I'm by no means an expert but I'm going to try and speak as a hypothetical dev.

Proposed System:

"In order to que for ranked matches in league of legends, all players must have an account that is able to accumulate honor. This requirement does not extend to needing to be gaining honor to be eligible, only that your honor status is not frozen for bad behavior."

Changes to Report System:

"Leaver buster now detects a leaver/DC sooner and operates on a 5 strike system. If reported, leaver buster will be used to determine if the player left and issue a strike. At 5 strikes the account will not be able to que for ranked for a set period of time. The strike system is not easily abused as a report alone won't count and will need the leaver buster tripped in order to be verified, and the 5 strikes should allow any player to fix their connection issues if any.

In addition, anyone who fails to reconnect within 5 minutes will no longer be able to do so, their champion's items will be automatically sold, and the players gold and accumulation will be factored into their teammates evenly. We hope this change will keep the teams as even and skill based as possible in the face of leavers and disconnections.

Chat related offenses will be tracked as normal through our zero tolerance word filters and standard word filters.

Using player deaths and the frequency at which they accumulate we will attempt track alleged intentional feeding. The system will be tripped in cases where a player has died up to 3 times within 1.5 minutes. While this system will not eliminate intentional feeding, it should help relieve some of the pressure caused by those who decide to switch sides. The gold the enemy receives from multiple kills on the same person in such rapid succession has also been diminished while the behavior continues. Given how many times this system is tripped in game, it should help our report system better determine intentional feeding vs just having a bad game."

Players With Frozen Honor:

"These players will be relegated to a "Low Priority" queue system in which they will only be able to match in bot matches for a set number of games. The goal is to match these players with each other, hence the longer queue times.

After a set number of matches these players will have to prove themselves in a set number of Normal Games before they can rejoin ranked queues by unlocking their honor through honorable behavior and playing. Once their account(s) heal, they will be able to match in ranked games again.

The goal is not to out right shift these toxic players into non ranked queues simply for ranked matches sake, but to encourage reform outside of simply suspensions. Players will be more apt to work harder to regain their honor or they can stay in low priority with other offenders and fight bots."

Imagine the pros and cons of such a system. Again. I'm no expert. I'm just passionate that something must be done about the toxic behavior in RANKED matches more than anything. People are coming to compete. This denotes that there must be standards for participation that promote good sportsmanship and competition. It's the same in every competitive aspect of life.

Please discuss and let me know what you think! If any CM's or Reds have thoughts I'm very curious what they are. Thank you for all you do!

They used to Rank restrict people years ago but that didn't change anything other than making normal games worse.

Truthfully I had to stop myself from buying too much into your post. All of these sound so good but I just don't think Riot would ever make them... :(

"In order to que for ranked matches in league of legends, all players must have an account that is able to accumulate honor. This requirement does not extend to needing to be gaining honor to be eligible, only that your honor status is not frozen for bad behavior."

This is a variation of a prisoner island except you proposed to put the "prisoners" (people who got their honor frozen via toxic behavior) in a populated island where non-toxic people live (normal/coop vs ai queue). Rito is not going to pollute other queues for the sake of ranked queue.

"Leaver buster now detects a leaver/DC sooner and operates on a 5 strike system. If reported, leaver buster will be used to determine if the player left and issue a strike.

You can prove that LeaveBuster is an automated system that does not required report to work simply by going into a game, sit in fountain for 5 minutes without forcibly disconnect yourself. You will see LeaveBuster message and be disconnected from the game involuntarily. That proves that before anyone even have a chance to report you at post game, you already got detected and got hit with LeaveBuster. Further report post game would not make any difference. If no one reported you for afk in that game at all, you'll STILL be hit with LB and lose your LP regardless whether someone reported you or not because it already detected and put a strike against you the moment you afk in-game. afk report does not matter. Funnier still are people asking others to report the afk.

At 5 strikes the account will not be able to que for ranked for a set period of time. The strike system is not easily abused as a report alone won't count and will need the leaver buster tripped in order to be verified, and the 5 strikes should allow any player to fix their connection issues if any.

And once again, you are not proposing anything to get rid of afk/rage quitter. You are simply dumping your problem onto other queues. Rito is not going to go for that.

This is a very terrible proposal. Hyper carries exist in this game, you know things that can go 1v5 Penta kill? What you proposed is to have the team flame and abuse that poor person who got stomped during laning into afk so his items his gold will be passed onto those hyper carries meanwhile he himself will be hit with LB, lose his LP regardless whether the team win or lose, and be barred from ranked queue. What you proposed is a toxic environment.

Your leaver buster idea is practically what's already in place for leavers. Leaverbuster automatically detects afks already. You already get punished with -LP and low priority queue after a few (unknown amount) of afks.

The idea about eliminating a player and sharing gold feels fair at first until you realize that champions get gold at different rates and use gold differently. If your top gp afk's your support isn't going to use the 4k gold they just got. And adding 4k gold to an adc is mental no offense.

I've seen death/minute suggested to spot trolls before. Different champions are going to have different numbers, different people will have different numbers. Say I climbed from bronze to plat, my death/minute cutoff would even have to change with my rank. I feel that death/minute is too limited a statistic to accurately detect trolls, not sure how to say this the statistic doesn't have enough depth. That's not to say that no statistic will work, I think it'll have to be an amalgam of various statistics to adjust for stuff like playstyle, champion(s), team performance, rank, and of course the dreaded bad day.

I respect that you're brainstorming ideas to stop trolls and help the community, I hope you don't give up on your ideas and instead make them so bulletproof riot has to listen.

I like it, but for the honor requirements and frozen accounts part the system itself needs changing. For instance, the system deciding that racoon is now a bad word and giving a 14 day when people with anti semitic names continue to exist.

I'm not saying that just because I'm going to be working on my main account here tomorrow when it's up (again all because of saying someone was a certain trash eating animal) but I can see it being a problem with matching as you would be throwing players who only got punished because riots system is complete crap and the rioters you contact are too lazy to do their own jobs in with players that think Germany was on the right side of ww 2..

Although sadly I don't think riot will even listen to these ideas and discuss them.

I have to admit a system that detects feeding based off of deaths per minute to determine if someone is feeding is an interesting idea.

If nothing else it would encourage people to play safer at least, which a tilted person never does while they continue blaming everyone else around them for their own mistake. You're damned if you feed, and damned if you rage cause eventually this system would be able to zero in on specific behavior.

The only hope you have is to shut up and play safer, or get kicked out of ranked knowing your feeding, trolling, and leaving amounted to nothing and your team didn't suffer one bit, while your enemy still has to try.

The game is able to in effect automatically better account for behavior that is sabotaging the entire experience for everyone involved. It would have a cumulative effect on ranked matches as well with toxic people's accounts regularly being kicked from queuing for ranked games. People also carry their habits to alts and their other accounts would likely be kicked from ranked as well, or they'd learn to stop being toxic or fix their connection etc by then.

TWO MAJOR CONS HOWEVER;

-Ranked queues could take much longer

-Normal Games might suffer drastically. You can't introduce these systems to ranked only because it will just dump all the toxins into Normals and ruin the experience for people just trying to have fun. How would you address that OP?

Nope.

Remember, this is a business. No queue in a free-to-play game is going to be gated behind arbitrary factors which prevent people from playing the game mode they want to play and thereby spending money on champions, skins, and other content.

You're passionate that RANKED™ should be treated like some special area for people who Take Things Seriously™. Remember it's still just a video game and a source of revenue for a large company.
