What do you do when your ADC doesn't trade in lane?

Crispy0Snake·9/10/2018, 1:32:14 AM·8 votes·9,908 views

So you get in a ranked game, you pick a support with item 3303 and you're like

Right

I wanna trade so I can get gold, my ADC's gonna need to back me up so I don't get chunked annnd...

My Caitlyn is as far back as she can possibly be, shoving as hard as possible, so I can't trade and get gold and try to win the lane. The lane is over before it starts and I'm just like... do I just sit here, never get wards and soak xp and do nothing for 12 minutes or until we get ganked and lose 1st turret?

It's impossible. You say "Stop shoving, we win trades" and they're like "What is shoving". You say "Trade with me" and they just say "no".

What do I do? I just wanna ff at 2min with ADC's like this. 60% of games are like this, it's so frustrating

This is probably the reason why I always play solo carry support like Lux, Brand or Veigar. If my ADC is whack, I can provide.

hrooza dota 9/10/2018, 1:48:56 AM6 votes

just a small thing not everyone knows the terms shoving and trading (mind you that cait might though something diff with the word trading)

i think a better term that ppl will understand instant of shoving is pushing (stop pushing the lane)

and instant of the word trading you can say harass them (cait try to harass them with Q)

note: im not saying you are wrong or anything just trying to give tips that might help you getting your message to casual players (yes casual can play ranked casually)

and if they dont Liston then oh will try to roam or play some how around them

UnboundHades9/10/2018, 1:35:47 AM5 votes

at your rank playing support is basically flipping a coin because you cant carry or even function if your adc is bad which is common

Vlada Cut9/10/2018, 5:48:01 AM4 votes

If I play Vayne and get counterpicked by Caitlyn (no way I'm banning her over Dark Harvest MissFortune) and I'm laning vs. Caitlyn Morgana, there is absolutely NO way of convincing me to trade with them, no matter if you play Lulu or Janna or whatever item 3303 support you play, just one CC and I get CC chained to death and there is no shield that will save me from that. Saving me would just make miss out minion waves even more. So no, sorry, you'll have to get used to adc's with passive laning phase because they don't want to risk losing their mediocre laning and neutral scaling.... I know I learned that the hard way.

Kei1439/10/2018, 7:44:35 AM3 votes

Get some deep wards into the enemy jg so you can be confident that your shove will be safe.

Even though their wave management and trading is bad, you can still pressure for first turret gold.

I also play mage supports for that reason, so I can just 1 shot the enemy if needed.

SweetRainTv9/10/2018, 2:41:49 AM3 votes

as support main (I play lux and Rakan) In low Elos most junglers are really bad so if you want to win game I recommend play jungle.

Stephenizgod9/10/2018, 7:52:42 AM2 votes

Most people don't understand the difference between trading/harassing and going for a kill. They get a free auto or two or you land an ability and they go all in with their flash and heal immediately. When they die, they think "wow garbage support baiting me into dying" and this mindset creates the overly passive laning phase at lower elos.

This is the main reason I don't support anymore, either my ADC does nothing all laning phase and we are super behind or they go all in all the time everytime I land an ability. Sometimes it works out, most times it doesn't...

Pick champs like Annie Xerath Zyra Brand Lux Morgana Velkoz

You can still support with them if your ADC is competent, but you can also switch to be an AP carry if need be. Also, Morgana will always be useful regardless of how behind she is as long as you can land your Q and time her Black Shield properly.

If they shove you can poke the enemies under tower when they can't retaliate because they have to deal with minions..... That's why lane priority makes or breaks mid lane(as well as roaming)

Orionlight9/10/2018, 2:16:12 AM2 votes

Can someone explain "trading" this is a intresting post.

What advice would you give to a new ADC?

Jerry SeinfeId9/10/2018, 11:23:34 AM2 votes

you play in silver, literally just poke the enemy botlane outta lane or atleast poke em to get the gold. If you're running blue support item i expect you to actually have the tools to use it.

Sirsir9/10/2018, 2:17:24 PM2 votes

Every time I lane with a passive Caitlyn I just want to play a bongo solo on their face... The entire point of the champion is to be a colossal lane bully.

Play safe. A bit of gold isn't worth getting put out of lane and losing all that exp. Only take safe trades. Then later in the game attach yourself to someone who actually wants to win the game.

I had a game as Lulu where I had a Cait that said, I shit you not, "I'm a scaling champion" into a Jinx lane. Fortunately our Diana mid got fed. Their bot eventually took our tower, I said 'stay safe and farm bot' and went to stay in mid lane. Me and the Diana literally 2v5d.

Of course after a certain point any ADC can farm into relevance, so look to go back to them when its proper.

Then play a coin support. If you know there's a more than likely chance you can't use an item, don't buy it. If you can't rely on your teammate to play properly then the only other option is to adjust your playstyle to match them as best you can.

Mc Truck9/10/2018, 5:29:33 AM2 votes

Here, I am playing item 3311 supports and do not whine about ad carries. Sona Zyra Xerath Lux

Nobody should warp his playstyle because of you - you can't auto, you don't auto.

BlazinHot69/10/2018, 7:43:51 PM2 votes

On the flip side of your complaint and as an ADC main, recently I have had a lot of supports be very aggressive at levels 1 to 3. One was a hyper aggressive Raka. Anyway, they were over extending pretty far just to get a little poke while all 4 players are at full health. Then that support would rage out that i didnt run through a full minnion wave to catch up them.

There is a difference between a trade or poke, then trying to all in. As an adc, I never want to all in on level 1. Call me passive for that, idc. I also want to say, im not implying that you personally are doing all-ins like that. It's just your post is the inverse of some of my recent feelings in game.

JoeAnarchy9/11/2018, 2:02:45 AM1 votes

well if you know how to play ADC so well, why don't you just switch to it? clearly you're the expert! :D

LTBOUNTYHUNTER9/10/2018, 1:33:47 AM1 votes

It's awful when you get a lane partner who doesn't understand or listen, all you can do is try in these situations.

Nimblepaw9/11/2018, 11:52:14 PM1 votes

item 3301 When they push up collect the coins. I learned this the hard way lol I also find the mana far superior for high ranged champions.

FullmuteAll play9/10/2018, 1:39:20 AM1 votes

I love that early game, it is my favorite part of League!

LordGeovanni9/10/2018, 5:14:53 AM1 votes

nothing as they are gonna flame you and boards are gonna tell you you should have just let them farm because they one shot everything later but dont think about how they can delay the enemy from doing the same thing to their team

Im Jayce Top9/10/2018, 7:54:30 AM1 votes

What do you do when your support afks in brush/behind you? Serious question, I stopped playing adc because id be 1v2ing bot while my tank support wouldnt tank, my mage support would harass, and my heal supports would just heal and not engage (nami. raka.Janna)

Sewer Side9/10/2018, 8:22:32 AM1 votes

What support are you playing that you can’t get Spellthief procs on their own?

Like I hope you’re not trying to play Rakan with that shit.

I just opt for coin in lower elos. You get more gold from it.

Smashed Hash9/10/2018, 1:46:51 PM1 votes

This entire thread has been very informative!

Praetor Notorias9/10/2018, 5:07:36 PM1 votes

Sell the gold income item for a coin, or roam into jungle for deep warding and try to snag a few spell hits, roam mid. If bot is putting that much pressure on the lane by autoing every chance they can rather than putting some thought into it, then ganks will be coming and the least you can do is use your trinket and red wards to set up some warning time.

The shear volume of braindead ADCs in the game now-a-days is depressing. There is no escape from them.

NekoniClaws9/10/2018, 5:59:47 PM1 votes

Lose

EXDEE I made a joke but it's not really a joke

OK but seriously, here's the tips I have (there are other good ones in this thread too) 1: Maximize your trade damage. AA Q AA on Sona? Do nothing else unless you're forced to trade (and try not to be forced to trade) 2: Pick on the ADC when they're going for a minion. Hit them! NO! BAD ADC! NO CS IS FREE! 3: Wait for MISTAKES, don't just 'go up and trade' 4: Don't go oom

AGEDIE9/10/2018, 6:07:00 PM1 votes

Have you tried finding a duo queue partner? At least that's what i would do, since some people play ADC very agressive / greedy they search for supports that make up some of their mistakes.

Mecha Incognito9/10/2018, 7:17:25 PM1 votes

If they're refusing the make trades and only shove, your best bet I'd reckon is to shove with them and look for roams mid or invade jungle if your jungler is botside.

If they cry about that, then /mute and get on with life and make another person on your team happy.

JoeAnarchy9/10/2018, 7:45:36 PM1 votes

so you're one of those supports that won't ever just sit back and let your ADC farm?

SugeMinPikk9/10/2018, 11:23:24 PM1 votes

What champ were you playing? If you were Bard, probably could've roamed

Telephone Booth9/11/2018, 2:00:21 AM1 votes

Those can be rough. Me and a friend like off meta bottom lanes, but when he goes malzahar carry, I simply can't trade and spelltheif gold. It sucks. So you just gotta kinda stay one step ahead. Try to bait them into your pokes. Use the bushes for untelegraphed shots. Stay back most of the time and accept that you're gonna be lacking on gold... it's better than feeding. I've fed many times from lack of help from the adc, but that's just how it goes sometimes. That's kind of the price you pay for laning with a complete stranger without voice chat.
