Are Autistic People allowed to play League of Legends?

CelestialJAG·7/31/2017, 8:49:08 PM·4 votes·5,646 views

I have an autistic friend and one day I was just in the middle of a League of Legends game at school during my break. He decided he wanted to play and I let him (RIP PROMOS). He proceeded to die 6 times, but the amazing thing was he played like any other player. He even picked up 2 kills! This is a serious question; are autistic people allowed to play League of Legends. I noticed at some point it seemed like he was inting and teammates were pretty negative about it, but it wasn't really his fault. The whole thing might sound controversial because of some people just not knowing they are in game with a real Autist. Thoughts pls, he loves LoL now!

Yes. Full stop.

The only people not allowed to play League are those who have proven they cannot behave in the community. Everyone who can behave is welcome, regardless of how good or bad at the game they are.

Yup, I see no reason why not.

HOWEVER, he needs to create his own account. Account sharing isn't allowed (I know you were letting him try, but if they detect it they can act on it, especially for ranked competitive integrity reasons)

Why... wouldnt he be?

As long as a person is not doing or saying anything that they know will just tick people off then Riot has no problems with them playing. Just make sure that he makes his own account if he wants to play as account sharing is against the ToS and will result in an account ban when caught.

if he fixates on the game...don't let him fixate on yasuo please. the focus they get is near inhuman!

But aside from all that...I'd be glad to welcome them to the community! Good player/bad player...they're still people!

send my regards and best wishes on the rift.

Yeah man, Autistic people are people, too, right?

I'm autistic, it helps sometimes actually, you get so into some shit that you can utilize mechanics that other players in your skill tier don't understand. And as someone with high functioning autism, I honestly find myself drawn to one to three champions and have them fairly well mastered, with a wide variety of builds and full understanding of itemization match by match,

64% winrate on my main, I think the other champs are all between 20-45%

so yeah I'm bad in general

You know the first thing they tell you in training when dealing with a disabled person is not to point out/or make there condition a big deal. They are human beings like anyone else and are just as capable under the right circumstances. Singling a person out because of there problems no matter how noticeable on paper only causes self-esteem issues down the line. Show them that they are capable of doing anything rather than associating them with boundaries from the get-go.

For future references, dont say "Are Autistic people allowed" because from the beginning your implying there's a reason they shouldn't.

Is that question even needed? Of course they can! My brother is autistic, and is one of the best gamers I know (although he doesn't play League).

Beas7ie8/1/2017, 3:56:39 PM2 votes

No, they can not. It's in the rules.

Riot has specifically stated in the rules that if you are autistic you are not allowed to make your account, play, and do your best to win and have fun this silly game for fun.

Please tell me you don't need this little disclaimer here to know that I am joking. I don't want to be like Leonard having to use a literal "Sarcasm" sign everytime someone uses sarcasm around him.

Yes, I think they have good analytic mind i heard ? WIth some practice he may be better than you imo

As long as they make their own accounts. The way your made it sound, your friend never played League in his life. That said, going 2/6 is good against people of your own skill level. Your friend, autistic or not, has potential. Let him make an account, teach him the rules of the game, give him pointers, and watch him kick ass!

I mean, how would someone over the internet know?

higura8/1/2017, 3:52:42 PM1 votes

autistic ppl can play if they make their own account, account shareing however is against terms of use and can get your account permanently banned.

As long as he doesn't take "REEEEEEEEEEE" or "Autistic Draven" or somesuch as a name, his experience should be the same as everybody else.

SEKAI8/1/2017, 3:59:54 PM1 votes

He's feeding because that's his first time at playing League. I'm pretty sure you fed pretty hard in your first game too.

There is no reason to why he isn't allowed to play the game, at all. His circumstance, be it his disorder and other conditioning and otherwise, should not gate him from enjoying a game. If you think he might "drag the team down because he's autistic", which let's put aside the questionable implications because that's gonna be its own thread, I say: Well, why do you think we have a matchmaking system and mmr/elo? He will be playing with people as equally skillful as him in no time. Nothing should stop him from playing the game if he wants to, in general (we're gonna avoid complications such as addiction and being too young for the game etc, just staying on the general level).

But he has his own account, because account sharing is not allowed in the terms of use of this game.

That and, he has to heed the community behaviour rules. The standards, no verbal abuse, no personal attacks, no deliberate harassment of any kind, no racism and other hate speech, no intentional feeding etc; banters are obviously allowed, but be careful not to go way too far into the offensive zone.

If this is a serious post: Of course autistic people are allowed to play league of legends. Why not?

TheEvilQueen13512/17/2017, 2:38:32 AM1 votes

of course he can. league doesn't discriminate against people, everyone can play except for people who break the rules. as long as your friend can handle the toxicity of the environment without it seriously hurting their mental or emotional health or becoming toxic themselves i see no problem

Autistic people are on a spectrum. We aren't all alike, and there's only one way I could imagine an Autistic person not being aloud to play, and it's not because they would be "not aloud" even. On the contrary some of us must be aware that some Autistic people are plagued with such severe sensory overload that there'd be no way they'd be able to play league very well. It might even be painful for them. One of my girlfriends is Autistic, and has epilepsy . . . she wants to play with me, and I wanna let her try. . . but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared that she might have a hard time playing.
