please remove the mastery emote

i think the mastery emote should either be removed or able to be toggled off / disabled (like /all chat is). it's quite toxic, and is often used to passive-aggressively insult enemies or to intentionally annoy them. think about it, no other game has anything similar. for example, call of duty doesn't have an option to flash your prestige emblem. it would just be toxic. and it is toxic.

While you might find it annoying, I don't think flashing your mastery emote is toxic. The mastery emote only shows that the person has a lot of experience on the champion, not necessarily that they're good with them. If I make a flashy play on Lee Sin, you bet I'm gonna flash that mastery. Took a lot of time for me to learn how to do that and for the time I put in, I earned the mastery.

Usually I agree with people about passive-aggressiveness and how it can be used in attempts to avoid punishment by the system. But in the case of the mastery emote, I disagree. If this is a problem, the solution is not complete removal. The solution is to build your own confidence up so that it's not shaken by something like the mastery emote.

If you mute the individual player, you won't see the emote.

As for myself, I only use it when I die after making a stupid play, so it's not always used offensively ;)

I made a reply before to try and help out someone else, so I'll quote it to try and help you out OP, however at the end of the day it's all about how you perceive their mastery emote usage. In the same sense that Elementalist Lux is able to say "All the elements available and you choose to be salty!" it's all friendly banter back and forth in the game that (usually) isn't directed at harming an individual. If Yasuo is flashing his Mastery 7 emote on you every time he presses R, make sure to flash your Mastery 4 emote when he misses his Tornado. In Call of Duty, Halo, and other FPS games, you're free to "crouch" over and over on top of someone you killed to engage with in-game fun. While there's a difference in being "thick-skinned" as lots of people around here like to throw around to try and enable their own toxicity, there's a large difference in something getting under your skin when the other player has done nothing aside from play the game as they wish. You're free to spam Robot Nunu's laugh as you run circles around the helpless ADC letting your Sunfire Cape kill them, and Kalista is able to laugh back as she kites you into oblivion - it's part of the in-built mechanics of the game, allowing players a more immersive and intimate experience with one another without resorting to "flaming" in chat.

As others have said, they earned that Mastery emote from countless numbers of games played and practicing that champion. If Lee Sin Q -> Q -> Ward -> W -> Flash -> R's a carry into his team from an entire screen away with flawless mechanics, they certainly earned the right to boast about that play in a healthy manner as they have likely dedicated a LOT of time into making that single play happen.

I'm not sure if /ignore blocks their Mastery Emotes, however if it does then that's a simple solution, although it completely blocks out communication with the player and removes them from your Friend's List if they were previously on there.

If you're interested there are many "Custom Skin" modifications which disable Mastery Emotes completely. I can't post any links or advocate using them, as it runs the risk of "but this guy did it" and LoL has a no-modification clause in their EULA/ToS. I can say that's it's fairly easy to find with a simple Google search. The downside of this is obviously it is a third party program and always runs the risk of getting your account banned. While I've never used it myself (I enjoy the in-game taunts and Mastery Emotes myself, it gives freedom of expression and is super fun to show off your Mastery as a squishy target when you're eating a Malzahar Ultimate and know death is approaching), I've used many custom skins for years and have never had a problem. Riot has stated many times that MOST Custom Skins won't fall under the category of "game-breaking," however something which gives your Hitboxes a better chance of being seen or "zoom modifications" are clearly going to give you an advantage and is something you want to avoid - in this game and any competitive game, really. You'll also want to avoid exceptionally racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. (such as Nazi Teemo) things, as even though it's Client Side and only you will see it, leaving these things alone gives a certain "bad vibe" that most companies generally would not want to be associated with saying "it's cool." One of my personal favorite skins that I would happily buy if Riot ever launched is Pool Party Heimerdinger with Rubber Ducky turrets and bubbles for where the usual hexagonal pattern would be. There's no advantage given, and the enemy team sees you as a normal Heimerdinger, however the quality of life and happiness gained is immense, and often what Riot (and most companies) want to maintain by keeping their player base around.

Again, I can't advocate using any modification to the client or anything that directly reads the client's data (i.e. scripting) as it's clearly against the EULA/ToS, however I can recommend doing your research and trying to cope as best as you can with the Mastery Emotes. If you're able to disable them and it doesn't give you an advantage in any way - great! Other than that, it's going to be very difficult as you'll find a lot of players take great enjoyment out of the system. Take Elementalist Lux for example with her quote: "All the elements available and you choose to be salty!" Not to mention someone like Kennen who actually rolls on the floor laughing, it's difficult to ignore at times. Most of the time it's harmless in-game interaction and (most of) your opponents will often appreciate your interaction back with them. Take World of Warcraft for example, you won't necessarily be able to talk to the opposing faction due to the chat being garbled, however you can easily make a feast with a fancy umbrella and sit down to show you are a friendly character and willing to be civil.

One of my personal favorite quotes to spam is on Soraka with her sassy personality: "Yes, that was a banana. Chuckle, no one expects the banana!" Especially when you're throwing out these incredibly weak crescent-shaped yellow particles that deal almost negative damage.

Hope this helps, best of luck to you and I truly hope that you find the means of coping that work best for you!

Just ignore it. Or is it really that big of an issue that you see a little emblem over their head sometimes?

SecondAirbane4/27/2017, 6:17:03 PM1 votes

kinda dumb idea its the only thing that you're allowed to BM with or get chat restricted cause social justice says so

No, it is fine. For the following reason.

Psychological warfare.

Someone flashes M4 or M5? They play the champion a fair amount to have the experience, be wary, but not necessarily afraid.

M6? Respect the lane, watch their moves.

M7? Consider more passive play, unless fair amount of ganks incoming from team. If your team is aggresive, tilt them with a camp and make the champ feel worthless.

Do you have it? Use it. Make them second guess.

I have M7 on Sion, playing him as support. They become wary, sometimes making it easier to read. CC them, ADC kills, flash and tilt to worsen their play.

That's like saying you shouldn't be able to spend the money you get from working lmao. You grind to get something and then you get rewarded for it, and try not to act like cod doesn't have t-bagging.
