Suggestion: Add a hard cap of 40 or 50 total chat messages allowed per player each match.

Players chatting too much and not focusing is a major problem. This isn't related to teammates negativity (specifically) either. This is about how difficult it is to focus and play (or do ANYTHING) while you are typing or thinking about how to respond to someone.

So many things are happening (or not happening) while players are typing.

  1. You can't cast spells while the chat box is open. If you're in the middle of typing a sentence and something happens, you cannot close the chat box fast enough to react.

  2. Hacking away at the chat in frustration or in intense moments leads to distracted players who aren't multitasking. AKA: Mr. (or Ms.) I'm standing in base not moving (despite how it only requires a mouse to move and not the keyboard) because I'm too focused on trying to type this sentence. This leads to many problems, like falling behind in farm or missing important fights that the player would have been involved in otherwise.

  3. Players often die because they are typing and not paying attention. This has happened at least (noticeably) 4 to 5 times in my last 3 games alone. A player stops everything they're doing (because they're typing) then low and behold, the enemy Jungler shows up a second or two afterwards to take down the player just chilling there doing nothing.

Notice, this post isn't about everyone. To be perfectly honest, I've probably never died while I was typing because I am quite an avid typist, who is not bad at multitasking. There are definitely times where I've missed out on events during a game because I was typing something however (or changing my music lol).

I honestly would suggest a hard cap be placed on how many times players can utilize the chat box during a game. I don't mean a system like the chat restriction, where you rip your hair out because you only get one message every 5 minutes. I mean something more generous, like say 50 messages per match and then the system just notifies you that you've exceeded the max message limit and cannot use the chat further.

Let's be honest here, everyone is here to play League of Legends and not to write a college essay. Utilizing the chat tool for strategy purposes or even just having a little fun in the chat is perfectly fine. Those uses never require the massive amount of typing I see many players write out in matches however. The only times players are spamming messages like crazy in the chat box are usually players who are just venting or raging, something they shouldn't be using the chat box for anyways. The players using the chat tool how it's intended aren't hurt by a hard cap on the chat box (as long as it's not too low), so I see zero reason why there isn't one added on there.

Some of my best games have been ones where, between fights, my team has lively discussions on all sorts of subjects. I don't see a cap as benefiting anything.

I'm struggling to understand why you'd need 10. Let alone 40...
