There seems to be some confusion about calling for reports.

_Some people have been spreading the meme that it is not possible to be punished for report begging, so I am repeating this post from last month. Since then, we have confirmed that this is how the system works. _

When Riot NaKyle made this post, what he or she was trying to say is that asking for reports is not always harassment and it does not always lead to punishment.

THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT REPORT BEGGING IS OKAY.

Let’s look at some examples, all of which assume that the quoted statement is pretty much everything the person was reported for:

“Report Ahri for no skin”

The IFS is able to detect that this is a joke. The report would be ignored.

“Reported.”

If it isn’t repeated, this isn’t all that toxic and the IFS would assign it a minimal value. It’s highly unlikely to trigger a punishment, though it does sometimes appear as the only toxicity in a match from a Reform Card.

Regardless, you still shouldn’t do this because it is still toxic. No good can come of it.

“Report Ahri for feeding.”

This is more toxic because it targets a specific person (the IFS has been trained to understand when you’re making a joke about yourself) and makes an accusation against them. Doing this puts you at more risk of receiving a punishment because it’s much more likely to cause conflict and team breakdown.

Keep in mind that we have recently had it confirmed that every report triggers a review by the IFS, so even a request this benign is unnecessary.

“Report Ahri for noob/unskilled/etc.”

Much the same as the previous, but worse. Personal insults make this a bad idea.

“Report Ahri. Report Ahri. Report Ahri. Report Ahri. Report Ahri. Report Ahri. Report Ahri…”

This is harassment and the IFS treats it as such. This is a great way to earn a timeout.

“%^$#! Ahri needs to stop feeding”

Just to be clear, there is never a justification for racial, ethnic, sexist, homophobic or similar slurs. Full stop. It doesn’t matter if the player is on autopilot from the Nexus to an enemy tower, this sort of behavior is never tolerated and is likely to trigger an escalated ban.

So, there you go.

##This was never addressed by Riot

Deep Terror Nami (NA) - about a month ago Ok here's the issue as I see it;

People are asking one question; Is asking for reports a punishable offense? The answer may be either A) Yes it is, B) No it isn't, or C) Kind of, because when they are being negative by calling them a feeder and saying to report it's harassment.

The answer you have given here is, imo, basically answer C. However, that seems to be entirely dependent on the accusations being made, so it sounds like even then lobbying for reports isn't punishable, it's just the part about making accusations and shaming.

If that is the case, then don't say "lobbying for reports is punishable", leave that out of it entirely. Say only what's relevant, that shaming and making accusations to influence reports is punishable.

If you disagree with how I've broken down the possible responses or misinterpreted what your answer meant, I feel it's important that they are broken down step by step to be clarified.

##Neither was this addressed by Riot

sixdogman (NA) - about a month ago I'm not sure who's equating report begging with hate speech, but thanks.

Also a single 'report xx' isn't punishable sure, but if someone does it constantly?

You're only using examples that fit the criteria of a clear harassment use case and/or clear toxicity.

You fail to address the cases where a player politely asks for reports more than one time in any given single game.

You fail to address it because Riot fails to address it.

Do not push a rhetoric that is merely your own personal translation of Rioter comments which the community has already read -- and has deemed it to be vague and requiring more specificity.

Else you would not be revisiting the subject by making this post about it.

P.S. All of this still fails to address the issue that a high percentage of players in the community are unaware of how the IFS / reporting system works, and mistakenly call for reports on a regular basis under the mis-guided assumption that you need multiple reports to make the system "trigger".

Riot has failed its consumer base by not making the efforts necessary to clarify and educate the community on the IFS and behavioral guidelines through easily accessible and highly visible means (such as within the game client interface itself).

Okay, so now rules-savvy PB board posters have this reiterated, and people that have been punished already and came here to complain get to see it as well.

Where's the in-client and/or in-game explanation?

Friends of mine that have played years more than I have still think that report-calling and mass reports are required for action to be taken against trolls, and they think I'm misinformed when I tell them otherwise. They dismiss me by saying something like "you spend too much time on the forums, that's just not how the actual game is played". And I don't blame them.

People are idiots. Plain and simple. Riot just need to make a decision on it and stop letting the players twist it around.

Report calling in any form punishable or not. Simple and easy to give an answer to.

If it helps anyone to understand better, think of yourself as the target of report calling, does it make you feel bad? Most likely it does, which makes it a negative thing, thus being an offense, justifying a report and a penalty, of course there are people who just don't care and don't quite understand the point, I can't help with that.

Use some common sense people, think of everyone as oversensitive person and go from there.

So here's a pretty similar situation:

I'd recently said in the post-game "I'm reporting you for being verbally abusive/harassing" And I believe that person was using hate speech in-game and was present in the post-game lobby.

If you answer any question on this post, is this bad/unhealthy? Do you think it accomplishes anything? (I think it at least informs the player what they did wrong)

I think I've only done this in the worst of cases and when that player can read what I've said.
