Tilting as a Strategy

In no game, EVER, should your main strategy to win be to insult you opponent and make fun of the mistakes he makes. I recently played a game, in normals, on a champion that I don't feel totally comfortable with. My opponent did nothing but badmouth me, ask me repeatedly if I was tilted, and constantly told me how bad I was, and how I shouldn't be playing League. He had mastery on his champ, and I had roughly ten games on the champ I was playing. I'm fine to admit I lost that game, but seeing behavior like that made me lose even more faith in the playerbase of this game.

That's my 2 cents worth.

dont get me wrong, insulting someone is not cool and against the rules. but bro i play ranked to win my game, i dont give a fuck if you destroy your pc because i 100/0 you or if you are the most calm person on earth. i throw that "wtf XD" right in there to make you rage at your jungler and lose focus even more. i wanna win and not become your friend.

You know how to counter that strategy? turn off all chat

You tilted, bruh?

Consider whether you would try to tilt someone while playing another game in person with them, like basketball or the sport of your choice. Like, just every point you score, immediately rub it in their face and tell them they suck and should stop playing basketball. Sure, some people would do it, but those people are bad people and you shouldn't be like them.

That depends greatly on the method.

What you are describing is definitely harassment and punishment-worthy. Mute them, report them, move on.

If they were to try and tilt you through legitimate means, that would be a different story. Please note that by legitimate means, I am referring to actions which occur during gameplay which do not in any ways violate Riots ToS, including (but not limited to):

  • Chain-ganking you until you couldn't possibly recover your lane
  • Tower-diving you or killing you between your towers immediately after you return to lane
  • Repeatedly invading your jungle, killing you in your own jungle, or stealing your buffs

I have used the second method many times over the years, usually in response to an enemy raging in all-chat.

Given that Riot just stated they want League to be treated as a sport, then yes, putting your opponent on edge should be expected to become a strategy here. You're a lot less susceptible to it with "e-sports" because there is no physical proximity to your opponents and you can't /don't have to hear what he has to say

Mute. Report. Move on. Constantly harassing a player is punishable. If they try to tilt you via chat just mute them.

Now making a person tilt by camping them is totally ok.

This kind of behavior is reportable, by the by. Don't do it.

There are separate issues here.

1: Yes tilting your opponent is a valid strategy. For instance, always camp an enemy Riven hard and early since Riven players are often prone to tilting and raging, thus gaining an advantage for your team.

2: Gamesmanship such as flashing mastery emote, taunt/dance/laugh as enemy flees, "nice flash lol" when you fail flash into wall then die, "gonna duel me again?", and the like are also perfectly acceptable ways of getting into an opponent's head, potentially making them play worse.

3: What's not okay is the toxic stuff that we oft see brought up on boards when people get restricted/suspended/banned like "u suck f%%%%t cell ur skinz and kill herself 4 given ur mom cancer" and the other things toxic people spew and try to defend it as a strategy.
