How to reform your toxicity.

I am a toxic player. I try not to be but this game gets to me sometimes and I need tips on reforming and not being toxic in games. I would rather not just mute everyone and be done with it, as I enjoy being talkative (both positively and sometimes negatively). If anyone could give me tips it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

well it would help if this community could just grow a pair, instead of going to cry to mama cause someone said a bad word.

Maybe if the fruitcakes weren't allowed to be a girl for a year because that's "who they felt they were".

Its not you, it's them.

The answer lies within yourself. what do you believe to be the best course of action? think about the consequences of your actions before you perform them. do you respond neutrally? change the topic? or do you ask them to stop? many options are provided to be a reasonable person. just choose the proper course of action.

Take pauses from time to time. If you win the first game of the day and it was really great without any assholes in it, further games are much more likely to be better because you start off with a positive attitude.

If one game was really bad though just stop right then and there. If you are already annoyed and in a bad mood you are much more likely to be toxic next game. Go jog a bit or watch something on Netflix to clear your mind and start over again. Added bonus is also that you should have longer win streaks and shorter lose streaks.

I also really can't tell what kind of toxic player you think you are. If you get toxic at people sucking balls in this game just realize that they are going to suck much more if they get pissed at you and everyone else.

If they are unreasonable assholes and that gets you mad just keep in mind that you can't argue with unreasonable people.

And lastly, what helped me improve massively is to get yourself a friend into the game that is overall just really unlikely to get toxic and is close to you. He or she doesn't even have to be a League player to start with, just introduce him/her into the game and start leveling with him/her. Tell him/her to calm you down whenever you start having toxic tendencies. Try to focus on having fun. On the flipside don't ever play with toxic premades. If they ask you to play with them just be honest about why you don't want to. If they're true friends they'll understand.

here's an early tip, don't insult your team, use your toxicity, instead of "akali wasn't there to help" say "really? that was a nice play jhin, why did your thresh steal it"

Then just make sure thresh gets bullied for everything by the enemy team

Basically divide and conquer

Some tips I can think of. I hope they help!:

  1. Try to play with friends. Friends usually help me vent out my anger if there is a troll on our team. Usually just venting to them over a chat program can help anyone calm down. Also playing with friends can be fun and help lighten the mood! However, do NOT pair up with toxic friends and use them as a way to bully others. That defeats the purpose of reducing your own toxicity and instead enables it. Look for friends (or other players on the forum) who are laid back, calm, and know how to have a good time :)

  2. Take breaks once in awhile. Sometimes clearing your mind really helps reduce the toxicity. Especially after a very frustrating game. Don't ever push yourself to keep playing when you're angry.

  3. Always play when you're in a good mood. Don't play when you're having a tough time in life, when you're stressed out beyond belief, or when you're emotional. This can cause almost anything to trigger a toxic behavior from you. Always best to play when you're in a good mood!

  4. Remember to have fun. This is still a game after all. If you're not playing to have fun then what are you really after? You can still strive to be good and skilled, but never forget to enjoy the journey to that end goal. If you hate every second of it then there's no point to push yourself further.

  5. Never respond to obvious baits. There's enough people in the community who will try to get emotion out of you. Just try your best to ignore them and focus on yourself. Sometimes it can be really tough, but always remind yourself you're better than stooping down to their level.

  6. If all else fails, just mute, block, and report. I do always suggest people report toxic players, but if you rather not rely on muting then save it as a last resort if the other suggestions dont work. Always prevent yourself from typing out your thoughts into the chat. It can save you a lot.

If you ever need more help I'd be more than happy to walk you through some more steps :)

I wish you the best of luck!

I'm not a toxic player (that is, I don't generally find myself desiring to rant negatively at anyone) however, I do frequently have teammates that decide to berate me over one or another detail. (For instance, playing a character I don't know in solo-q.) When this happens, I find that if I have at least one teammate that behaves positively, then I can maintain my own positivity. Perhaps you could actively seek out positive players in your matches, and use their positivity to bolster your own. Albeit, sometimes there just aren't any positive players on your team. (And most opponents won't fraternize with the enemy.) In these cases, I suggest completely ignoring the chat if possible, and building your champ the most interesting way you can imagine. (I always have more fun if my build is interesting.)

When I get a team that pushes my buttons the wrong way. I just sit back, and think about what I'm going to say, but never type it out.

Type /mute all when your teams going to intentionally troll / throw

Go about the game, report the player intentionally trolling, and don't talk trash.

If people ping spam turn off your sound problem solved...

Don't argue with idiots, you know they are, and unlike real life you can do something about it called "mute"...

This is why games are more fun when you play with 3+ friends who know what they are doing or have premade teams I do team play but mostly in over-watch never ran into toxicity before really besides a few hackers.

If you got a hextech loot restriction that means you are hitler. and you will never reform.

Friendly Ram8/12/2016, 4:49:18 AM1 votes

imagine your teamates as little toddlers. otherwise just try to have fun. and if you're gonna be negative at least try to be funny about it( instead of omg stop feeding ask if they can 1v7 minions for a little while.)

Sir Fuzzi8/12/2016, 5:58:04 AM1 votes

Honestly turning off cross-team chat was a really good step for me and shortened up a lot of my behaviors. Otherwise, it's a game-to-game thing. Some people just need to be told off and some people are just going to have a rotten attitude no matter what. That said, I've only been warned once in my time on League-- once in S3, by leaverbuster, for a disconnect from a bot game. It was tragic, but these things happen. You know?

The answer to your question is really just 'you don't.' Toxicity is the language of League, and they took away tribunal which was kind of curious. If you need tips, I might suggest that maybe non-toxicity isn't your thing. Lace your toxicity with more humour, let people know you're not there to impugn their family name.

Honestly, most of the times I've laughed my ass off at League have been toxic comments. My Lux game was off and my ults were bad, so someone told me, 'this lux here ulting like stevie wonder.' Good times. Give anything wit and humour and people will damn near make fun of themselves.

I think admitting that you're toxic / not perfect is a great step. But I don't know. :D

dominusx8/12/2016, 11:19:15 AM1 votes

dont be toxic for the chance of good hextech loot. that the only reason im not toxic. other than that people beg me to be toxic with their stupidity but ever since i got Project yi i stopped flaming xD

Princess Íncest8/12/2016, 12:17:10 PM1 votes

I like being toxic. Why do you think I have this name?

Dragfin8/12/2016, 2:34:37 PM1 votes

Until RIOT starts taking a more extreme approach to the toxicity (AFK's/DC's. intentional feeders, trolls, non team players etc, etc) that cause chat toxicity, it will always be a problem. No amount of muting or reporting is going to fix chat toxicity until the real problem is addressed. It's common sense but RIOT and too many of the players are lacking in that department and are too lazy or apathetic to address it.

Immortal spax8/12/2016, 6:38:03 PM1 votes

Be passive-aggressive.

Instead to ask to your jungler why in 15 min she didnt ganked any single lane, ask her "why are you stacking devourer?"

Instead to yell to your adc because he chose to cs instead to engage when you pinged, just tell him that in october Farming Simulator 17 will be out.

Its not a solution but its always better than flaming, also most of the time people are stupid ans dont get it, so you will not even get reported.

Mister Punches8/12/2016, 7:13:50 PM1 votes

Mute all the people in your game.

Don't talk smack to anyone if you decide not to do the first thing.

Listen to your teammates. League is a team based game, going Rambo 1 v 5 is just as toxic as talking smack to the enemy team just because you lost your cool.

Don't be the Call of Duty kid, which is basically the second point. We already have too many of those types of players in this game, and they aren't getting punished fast enough.
