A thought about perma banning crossed my mind

Im gonna start off by saying keep it civil since these kinds of discussions tends to blow out of proportion and i do not mean to create a massive shitstorm, this is just to vent my mind on a solution and hearing what the community thinks about it.

Since the summoners code disapproves of toxic behaviour (obviously) the biggest punishment one can get is to be perma banned (Having your account suspended permanently)

Most of the reasons for this is players using the chat function in the game to express themselves in a toxic manner where they insult and berate other players due to their plays ingame. People can have a bad game, have connection issues, and on the lower tiers maybe not know the game perfectly well enough to perform at an even average level, and as a result they get attacked by flamers and toxic people.

Anyway my point being, these flamers and toxic people's biggest flaw is that they cannot stop themselves from having to say something negative and they get riled up often off of a teammates unfortunate plays wether its intentional or not.

But im gonna go out on a limb here and dare suggest that i believe that most people are just passionate about a game they enjoy and want to play to their best of their ability. I'm in no way defending toxic behaviour whatsoever and it shouldnt have a place anywhere in the game, but i don't think perma banning people is the answer.

I think the best solution for these people and any toxic player who breaks the summoners code again and again is just to permanently ban them from the chat functions. I'm sure the community will have a number of reasons and good explanations as to why its not working in the long run and i do see the reasoning behind actually banning someone from playing entirely since its a privelige and not a right to play the game if you break the rules but it's my two cents on the matter.

So keep the discussion on wether it would be fair, unfair, good or bad to let players play a game they like but with the inability to use the chat so they cant flame anyone.

Best regards.

The types of people who cant control themselves when they get mad, arent limited to the chat function as being a way to "express themselves" (as you generously put it). Its been shown that if chat doesnt quench their thirst for revenge, they will resort to gameplay trolling. Griefing, inting... things that are much harder to detect than chat offenses. Its easier to just ban them.

Already been tried. Toxic players unable to chat resort to gameplay related trolling.
