Defending Toxicity.

I'll try to keep it short. (TL;DR, Someone flames someone else, and a third party defends that person because we should 'expect it')

So basically our Veigar was doing a bit poorly at the start of the game, the Garen, from death #1, started harassing Veigar, it started passive aggressive at first, things like "This Veigar.." and shit like that. Eventually he started insulting the veigar outright, getting clearly mad, and toxic. Later on, Veigar was trying to help the Garen in a fight, I know I was watching. Veigar was there, trying to stun them, tossing his Q in, etc. Garen was fighting still, 2v5. Refusing to run away, and then died. And without a beat, flamed Veigar for not helping at all, calling him a r%%%%%, all that. Obviously I defend the Veigar cause there's legitimately no reason to be this way to someone who's trying their best. And the Garen is obviously not stopping but what REALLY baffles me, is when Caitlyn joins in.

Immediately Caitlyn asks me, after defending Veigar. "Are you two butt buddies or something" obviously I don't know the veigar, so I say no, and it ends there for a bit. ...Garen starts up again later; (and no, him and Caitlyn were not paired, I checked), and I say I'll report him n' all that, and obviously I did. But Caitlyn refuses to report him, and not only that, DEFENDS him. Saying we need to 'grow up' or "stop being a bitch lol".

Age or anything like that is not the issue here, the fact is this community is a cesspool of toxicity, and that alone baffles me, but for people to find reasons to DEFEND TOXICITY? Why?? Why would you ever side with someone who's attacking someone else? I do not understand it.

So I'm asking the toxic players, and you who would defend those players. Why? What's your problem?

Firstly, Naming & Shaming is against the Boards Universal Rules, so you'll want to remove the players' screennames.

Second; there's no real reason to be concerned if someone else refuses to report someone. Your report alone is all that's needed, as the IFS doesn't care how many reports are filed, as long as there's a quantity greater than zero. One report is enough to trigger a review and consequent punishment.

As for the players who defend toxic players, I've seen a litany of arguments (none of which I agree with), which range from "freedom of speech" to "you can just mute them" and "toxicity shows competitive spirit".

Ultimately, I personally recommend to just keep reporting toxic players, and disregard those who would defend them. If they, too, start being toxic, report them too.

Caitlyn is free to defend Garen as you are free to defend Veigar. People see different things and use different factors as part of their judgements.

You might see that Veigar was trying his hardest, where as Caitlyn may have see him as not doing enough. Maybe Cait doesn't know Veigar's CDs, maybe she didn't see him use his E. Maybe she sees him missing everything or targetting the wrong person.

Your report is yours to file, their report is theirs to file. More reports don't do anything to further someone's chances or speed of punishment anyways, so there is no need to get stressed out when people don't report to your wishes.

As was explained by Umbral Regent, naming and shaming is not permissible on the boards.

Please contact us on the boards discord or discuss the boards if you have any further questions regarding this action.

Declaring your intent to report someone, asking for others to report someone, or arguing with toxic players are all considered negative by the IFS.

Use the chat to increase your chances of winning by creating plans for the future.

You experienced first-hand how interacting with toxic players just increased team disunity. When you encounter a toxic player: mute, report, move on.

I recommend mute, remind them how to use it, and then let it go like elsa.

I simply think it is irrational to be offended/upset over what a stranger says to you online. Those kinds of players are expressing themselves, just because you disagree with the way they are doing it, doesn't mean they should be punished.

You have an option to mitigate flame with a button, or nullify it with mental control. So it is unnecessary from the start, to punish them for flaming.
