Why doesn't Riot utilize a Mute System rather than a Ban System.

It seems like players get upset for being banned for TALKING or making statements even if they spend a lot of money.

Why doesn't riot just mute the player? It seems like players not talking is way better than players NOT PLAYING.

You can't be toxic to people if you're muted right?

Long term mutes simply do not work - players are still able to be toxic with their limited messages, and those who run out of messages will turn to gameplay toxicity (intentional feeding, trolling, giving up, etc) in ways that are harder to detect.

Further, Riot does not believe in eliminating the primary form of long-term strategic communication from the game.

because they tried that already. People just kept racking up their punishments into a perma status without reforming.

Also, they reverted to more passive agressive ways of toxicity and these players would do things like int, etc.

Because I can be toxic even though muted Its called trolling

perma mutes didn't stop people from being toxic when stacking chat restrictions were a thing

Riot Tantram posted about this 2 months ago:

It really breaks down into two categories.

1.) Helping players reform 2.) Shielding others from the behavior, at a cost.

We used to issue chat restrictions that essentially scaled indefinitely.

We were able to determine that after a certain point the penalty no longer helped with reform. The 10-game and 25-game counts for chat restrictions are based on data that they were both light enough, and felt strict enough to encourage people to understand their behavior is unacceptable in game and change it.

We also saw that the players in this 'large restriction' category defaulted to gameplay altering means of harassing their team. It caused an increase in feeding and trolling.

The sample size of this population and time frame is huge. Essentially the time spanning from the introduction of chat restrictions to the introduction of IFS.

So my question for you is, would you rather have more feeders and less negative chat?

It's true that you can't be toxic to someone if they are muted permanently but, communication is a key in a team game like League of Legends. You can't just ping and use that as communication. Another flaw in this suggestion is that people can find new ways to affect someone else's game like inting/trolling or spam pinging. Which the spam pings can be avoided by muting pings, trolling/inting is not avoidable.

Also, I believe Riot is making players learn how to control themselves. This game is mostly made up of teens to adults. If they don't learn self-control through a game, I doubt they could control themselves in an actual situation where someone starts a fight. If someone flames you, you should be able to hold back and mute them instead of what normal flamers do (flame back) which will not only worsen the situation but get you in trouble too.

If you are muted forever, you won't learn how to control yourself. If you seriously have issues with using the chat feature, you can find ways to make it disappear. That's what self-control is... searching how to disable chat on your own so you don't have issues with it.

It's because, I believe, of the fact that chat is an integral part of the game, assuming you aren't voice chatting with every teammate. Abusing an integral part of the game is the same as intentionally feeding. It's affecting the functionality.

they should put an option to fullmute all automatically (including yourself of course) I have enemy chat muted automatically and rarely get tilted by them...
