Punishment system

I don't think Riot's punishment system is very helpful when it comes to taking toxic players out of the community. I just got a 10 game chat restriction from one match that I played. The worst thing I said was "fucking r%%%%%" which I can't blame them for punishing me over. But why for only one game? I've never been punished before, and I had a bad game where people were flaming me (other team and mine) the whole time and I flamed back. Not trying to justify my behavior because I know it was bad, but I think Riot should give people three chances like they used to. Especially because rage quitters and soft inters are still running around ruining people's games with things their teammates can't control. At least you can mute people if they're flaming. Again, not trying to justify toxicity in chat, but I think the punishment system should be reworked.

Well first of all, you definitely should have gotten an instant 14-day ban for that. Zero tolerance language or hate speech (such as racism, homophobia, or general derogatory language such as the one you quoted) usually results in an instant 14 day ban. So I'd consider yourself very, very, very lucky.

I've never been punished before, and I had a bad game where people were flaming me (other team and mine) the whole time and I flamed back.

Other people's actions do not matter, your actions do. Flaming a flamer doesn't do anything but detract from your focus on the game.

but I think Riot should give people three chances like they used to

You do get three chances. The punishment system is as follows:

10 game chat restriction > 25 game chat restriction > 14 day gameplay ban > permanent ban

You're currently at the first rung of the punishment ladder.

You’re lucky it wasn’t a two week ban - r%%%%% is often considered a zero tolerance phrase.
