How exactly do reports work?

Hey everyone, I've recently had a concern with the way that reporting works. My main questions are:

  1. Does reporting catch what was said in the post-game lobby?
  2. If yes, does it catch what was said after the report went through?

I can't tell you how many times I've reported someone after a game, then after I report them, they say something extremely offensive. The reason I ask is because I recently had a game with a duo who was extremely toxic most of the game. One of them (we'll call him toxic1) called me an "autistic monkey" during the game, while his duo (toxic2) pretty much just said how bad everyone except him and his duo partner were throughout a good portion of the game. After the game, I immediately reported them both. However, my duo partner was talking with them in the post-game lobby, and they said some very offensive things. Toxic1 told my duo partner to kill himself in the post-game lobby, and toxic2 called him the n-word because he played Lucian. However, both of those occurred after I sent my report, so I wasn't sure if my report picked up on these things. And after checking, neither of these players were banned for any length of time.

With that said, I have a couple more questions:

  1. Is it possible they were punished, just without a ban?
  2. Is it possible that the system is no longer picking up on my reports (maybe I report too much)?
  3. Is it a good or bad practice to quote what the players say on the report screen? For example, in the report for toxic1, I put "autistic monkey" (in quotes) inside of the report description. Is this something I should stop?

Any answers would be appreciated, thanks!

  1. Yes, it does catch pre and post game chat.
  2. I would presume yes, though there has been no official confirmation either way. Much post game chat is still reviewed manually (but it is increasingly automated) so a manual review would for sure pick it up. I am unsure if it would feed into the automated system - it would be easy to code it to do so but I am not sure how the system is coded.
  3. It is possible that players receive anything from a light chat restriction to a permanent ban, and you may not be notified if they get a certain punishment or not.
  4. As far as we know, you could report everyone in every single game and your reports would not lose weight with the system. I would imagine, however, that Riot may disregard your reports when training the system if you report everyone every game. But as long as you're only using it for legitimate offenses (i.e. things you think should be reported) and not falsely reporting just because they played bad or you needed someone to report, you should be fine.
  5. There is no real reason to do so, but you are welcome to quote. I recommend making sure you make clear it is a quote in case a Rioter ends up reading your report comment - that way they don't think you were saying those things.

That second one is a good question... I mean they all are technically, but I just never thought of that second one.

No it doesnt, riot pumped out an automated system which doesnt care if you are justified or not. Bottom line is "rules are rules" and if you are in any way negative you will be penalized. Riot wants the game to be more kid friendly, and therefor trys to make the game seem more competitive while not having any repercussions ( calling out stupid things/berating your team for stupid things)

You can't have your cake and eat it too.
