What is the purpose of the mute button?

Why are people getting banned for being toxic when people that feel harrased have the option to mute the person in chat, their pings and their emotes? Why is there even a mute button when people that get flamed don't use it and then cry about getting flamed in the chat that they can chose to not see it and later resulting in the flamer getting banned?

The mute button is to prevent me from having to deal with your toxicity.

The report and punishment systems are to prevent your toxicity from ruining other players' games in the future.

Further, when something is bad, it's bad regardless of if someone chooses to take steps to mitigate it.

boys this is 2019 so people cant even have fun in games anymore. Flaming is a part of the game and makes the game more fun, if anyone doesnt think flaming is fun then that person can just mute the person flaming and everything is good. You dont have to ban a person for flaming when you just can mute them, if you think flaming is bad you can just mute a person with one button press but if you are like me and like flaming and thinks it is fun reading other peoples toxic messages you can do so. Why is everyone so easily offended that they ruin the games for us other RANDOM BASTARDS?

What is the purpose of the mute button?

To give players the capability to mute someone whom they don't want to hear from anymore despite the negative affects it has on their teamwork. It doesn't take back what was said previously, it's not capable of time travel.

For the sake of the game integrity the player is still obligated to work with someone that has made it clear that they're being a jerk. And working with a jerk isn't exactly an enjoyable experience.

You say that muting stops all negative interaction with the other player but that's rarely the case. I see angry people go to great lengths to harass someone especially when they think they've been muted or are being ignored. Spam pinging, griefing (ranging from minor to major), constantly asking people to report, and so on. Anything that they can think of that will upset the other player.

The mute button is the justification as to why you are not allowed to "flame back". You never have to deal with people flaming you when you can press a single button and have an absolute and perfect defense against it.

Thus, when someone is harassing you: Mute, report, and move on.

Sensitivity, and Riot likes to cater to the players that are offended

Why can you get permanetly banned for saying bad things in the chat? If riot doesnt like flaming why doesnt they chat ban the person. Typing bad things in the chat doesnt mean that that person is throwing the game and that they are runing everything in the game, if riot just chat banned that person instead of banning the whole acount people could still enjoy the game. If that person later starts running it down and feeding cuz they cant type things in the chat then ban them for that and not for typing bad things in the chat.

Because throwing a temper tantrum over a video game shouldn't be somthing mature people should have to deal with in general.
