What does "I was joking" means?

I had a really toxic guy in my game today. From the champion select he started s***talking me and my friend (He was 3 premade). I just joked about how they thought that teemo is toplane and they picked yorick and he started raging and wishing that we get cancer and die. When the game started our jungler ganked for us and took enemy flashes and we just said that it was a nice gank. He simply started spamming SHUT UP in chat all in caps. I told him that he can mute me and he started raging again and how if i am first time lucian (After the 9/1 zed one shotted me..) I decided to mute him cause i was done with his toxic behaviour. After the game i asked the enemy team to report him for being toxic and all of sudden he started saying that i was the toxic one and how big of a noob i am and just raing. He probably comtinues raging but i left the room.

The thing is that he probably wont even get banned.

I mean he wished me to die from cancer from the begining of a match without any reason. Ugh but its just words. Yeah but i might not care about it but there are people who do. I really hope he gets banned or at least to not let him use the chat anymore. The sad part is that he was a good player but he didnt shut up.

Edit 1: Forgot to mention that before the game ended he said that he was joking. (I think..My friend told me he wrote it)

"The thing is that he probably wont even get banned." If you even took 5 mins to look on this part of the board you will see that, that statement is false. He will get ban especially if people report him for his toxic behavior. I highly doubt they take statements like "I was joking" seriously, or else everyone would use that as an excuse to get a free pass. What he did was wrong even in a joking manner. As long as you reported him and he continues to act like this in games he will get punished eventually!

"I was just joking" doesn't mean anything. If he is consistently toxic regardless of if he was joking eventually they will get banned.

There are many things in common that I see in Toxic Players. If you call them out on their toxicity, they will either call you toxic or will simply not care to be labeled Toxic. They are so willing to push the boundaries, keep going on with their toxic speech, until they get caught. They said they were joking not because they were joking (they obviously weren't), it's to try to avoid punishment. Despite what someone might think, people actually DO mean what they say when they're angry, in fact the truth comes out more often than not when they are. Their "inhibitors" turn off so to speak. Whether they meant it or not, there is no excuse and is unacceptable to tell anybody to die of cancer.

You probably didnt have to say nice gank in the all-chat but that's no reason for people to rage nonetheless.
