The Result of Auto Fill
Okay. So when riot released the patch with primary and secondary roles, I originally felt it was a good idea. It allowed it so that players would not be put into roles they were not comfortable with, and also made it "easier" for solo que/duo que to carry because they would have the roles they were best at. But as the season continues, I'm beginning to see the flaws of this particular installment. Here's the issue:
1. Primary/Secondary Roles versus Auto FIll
Because auto fill is a thing, I have a chance of being put in a role that I'm just not good at. Sure, the argument can be made that you should be able to play each role at least decently to be good at the game, but if you look at other players, you'll notice those accounts who are one trick Akali or Zed mains, etc. I realize that auto fill is sometimes a rarity and most of the time, people do tend to get their primary or at least their secondary role. But it's not guaranteed. And when you're in solo or duo que for example, and you're trying to carry, as I mentioned, it's very hard to do that when you are auto filled into a support role, for example, (sorry support mains, as an ADC main I love you, thank you for carrying my lane early and babysitting me, much love) especially at lower elos.
2. Auto Fill Causes Toxicity
Okay so let's say you get auto filled. Generally, any person who has a brain would be annoyed because they can't carry but they'd suck it up and deal with it to the best of their ability right? Or at least you'd think. We all know there are some people on League who will get auto filled, and simply because they are a higher pick than you, will take your role anyway and insta lock it. Now not only are you forced into a role that you weren't even placed in to begin with that game because pick order is still being instigated despite the introduction of role pick before que, you're pissed at the guy who took your role because he (or she) was being toxic to begin and will most likely cause others to troll. You're annoyed, pissed even. People in your champion select are saying to report him, or he's trolling. Arguing starts and the only viable option is to dodge because you know your team is already tilted pre game.
But what if you're in promos? You dodge-you forfeit. So now your only option, which isn't even viable in any sense of the word, is to play the game through even though you know it's lost before hand due to lack of team coordination and emotions. Yes, there is the common sense answer: Be mature and deal with your auto fill even if you aren't proficient in the role. But honestly, I think auto fill should be taken out completely because it would solve all of the above problems. Yes, longer que times would come up. I don't know about you guys, but I would much rather wait out the longer que for a role I'm confident in, than sit through a shorter que to either be auto filled into a role I'm not as advanced in or deal with a person who will troll because they don't have the maturity level to deal with auto fill.
So how do you deal with these trolls? Probability is usually 1 out of 10 games of yours you'll get a troll in champ select, but the problem is they can then influence 10 games before even noticed by riots support system. If not my game, someone else's as well. I think Riot is too lenient with players and it's an issue that has been on-going for 7 seasons now. 7 years. It needs to be addressed. 1 troll can influence a lot of people before he is punished and a chat ban, personally, is not enough.
