Improving the Report/Tribunal System

I'm really hyped about the mid-season magic updates, I really am. But after continually running into toxic players daily all I want are improvements to the report system. I feel that the report system isn't effective enough at the moment to answer this problem, and here's why.

First, as someone who is diligent about reporting truly toxic players, I rarely receive any notification about the Tribunal being involved. The only time I received notification of something like this happening was in a bot game, where my account (and the accounts of others) were legitimately being threatened by a player. Any other report I filed was in a human game, and I have yet to see any action taken.

Second, I keep running into other players who just tell me to mute the other player. Silencing someone like that is a temporary fix; on one hand the chances of encountering that player again is next to nothing. But on the other, there's nothing physically stopping that player from being belligerent in the next game they play. In a world where we encourage victims or downtrodden people to speak up about offenses, it's mind boggling to see people doing the opposite here. I realize it's a game, but believing the offended player is at fault for not muting during the game is a real problem.

Not only is this a community where toxicity isn't being punished enough, but it's a community in which players actively ignore or support toxicity. Though ignoring is a temporary fix, players will run into it again and again until something's done. Because of this, I'd like to propose some possible fixes.

I'd love to see an update to the system that opens up the reporting process to players. There's a lot of behind-the-scenes work that I believe should be open. This is because players are more likely to support a reporting system where there are more indications that actions are being taken to punish a player. Notifications like that can push others to continue reporting toxic players, it won't lead to the hopeless of the system not doing anything.

I'd also love to see a pseudo-reporting system based of muting others. I'm honestly not sure if the game keeps track of how many times you've been muted, but I feel that it would be a great indicator of a possible toxic player. I'd assume that someone would be muted for a reason, after all.

The point is I'm tired of dealing with this. There should be a tangible process of reporting that every player should be comfortable with using. I'm bound to get some flak for this, but there comes a point where this goes beyond trolling and into a legitimate problem. Players shouldn't be told to mute and carry on, they should report toxicity to take the steps to improve the community. A game that punishes bad behavior and supports good behavior leads to a fun time.

In the meantime, I'm gonna hop off my soap box and continue reporting when necessary. I hope anyone reading this does the same when they run into similar players, if we all take the 30 seconds it takes to report a toxic one, things will get better.

Hope y'all enjoy the rest of URF mode.

You only receive a notification when your report triggered a punishment from the Instant Feedback System. Not receiving it doesn't mean your report did not contribute to them being punished later, or got them punished after a manual review.

I'd also love to see a pseudo-reporting system based of muting others. I'm honestly not sure if the game keeps track of how many times you've been muted, but I feel that it would be a great indicator of a possible toxic player.

There's nothing in the system on that, or if it is recorded, it's not used against players in any way. You Mute to improve your own experience in an individual match; you report so to help prevent a player from ruining the game for others in the future. If you think a muted player should be punished, you need to report them as well because that's what the system is there for.

People don't always mute others and think they need to be punished. Sometimes they just don't want to be bothered, or some people always mute everyone.

players are more likely to support a reporting system where there are more indications that actions are being taken to punish a player. Notifications like that can push others to continue reporting toxic players

I don't think a significant number of players refuse to report simply because they haven't received a punishment message. That would be quite counter-intuitive, really. The system will not parse a player's match data when reviewing their case if they were not reported in it. I suggest reading up on Lyte's ask.fm, as I know at one point he brought up that some players want to receive more messages like this, while others want to recieve less or none (there's a point where it becomes intrusive).

Punish system is just as much as a failure it is than our justice system, and this is baised, for the player who's toxic, salty or edgy, through his/her eyes, they're merely specking the cold, brutal truth for those that ARE indeed intentionally feeding (scrubs) and/or trolling (usually smurfs). Now, some toxic players, on the other hand, are just purely toxic. However, again, this is based on the individuals perspective on how they should take it as such. I'm a passive-aggressive individual myself and beat the cold truth into (the) player(s) who are(is) just BAD, even if it's in any game mode (except AI Bot games). I usually have a losing streak, for these(this) very same bad player(s) who are(is) just strictly bad or intentionally bad don't make the game interesting or fun for others like myself who's trying to have a challenging back-to-back game.

If anything, rather than change the report system, the matches should be based on the individuals skills and NOT like the ranking system, for that system is stupid. This system should be based on the players KDA, those who have high deaths than assists and kills will get placed with other players who also have the same KDA ratio or something?

'Cause I'm tired of having a losing streak, it's not every time, but it might as well should be at this rate.
