The Truth About Perma Bans ands Chat Restrict

What is the point of the permanent account bans by Riot?

"To rid the community from toxic players!". I hear you! But think again...

The game is FREE to play so the toxic offenders can just make a new account, and that's exactly what they do.

Now the situation has just gotten worse, because this same toxic player has gotten right back into the community. Think of all the streamers like Tyler1 who just keep on playing and making new accounts, and then other people you read about on Reddit or the LOL forums. It happens frequently. This makes the situation even worse, because now this person is likely not at their proper MMR (match making rating) anymore, and they will proceed to ruin more games by either being too weak or too strong from where they are placed. It can take many many games for the average player to be placed in the proper ranked division. This is not a 1v1 game, so winning or losing games by being more skill or less skilled is not as likely; There is the luck of your other 4 players, and team comp, etc. The other issue here is that the player can continue to be toxic in chat or in game on the new account.

Now Riot has another great idea already implemented: Chat Restrictions! This is a great way to deal with toxic players, it severely limits the amount of verbal abuse they can do in chat, and keeps the player in the game rather than arguing or other toxic behaviours like being AFK just because they are typing. Also /all chat is disabled, which prevents the inevitable "report my team" or early GG messages that give the other team the confidence to wipe you out.

So why would Riot ban an accounts you ask? MONEY! Even though the game is free, they know that these users will dump more cash into the League of legends store for skins and even just champions to play the game.

So my solution: Just keep using chat restrict and keep extending the chat restrict punishment after each toxic offense! Eventually the chat restrict could last a very long time and every player in those games will be happier with the results of a chat restricted player, than have another toxic "Smurf" in their game with full blown /all chat access.

I'm a reasonable person so please comment below if I'm missing something or there is any other creative ideas that I might not thinking of.

PS. Riot bring URF back forever ;)

TLDR: Riot only uses perma bans to make money! An improved "Chat Restrict" is a much better solution

Edit: added tldr

They actually tried this already. Long story short it didnt work as they had hoped.

That aside, they dont un perm ban them because thy want to make the best effort possible to get you to not be toxic. Its funny though because tyler1 actually had a true permanent ban from league, because once they could link an account to him, they banned it until the last time they reappealed it (he didnt get any of his accounts back, just they wouldnt insta ban any new ones he made)

But they dont perma ban to make more money, in fact, most people would be less likeley to drop even a dime after a perma ban to make themselves feel like they "won" and riot lost a valued customer

Don't you remember disco nunu? If people can't troll in chat then they'll troll in game.

10/10 This is a fresh new perspective that has never been discussed in this forum.

  1. Perm chat restricts have been shown to not be effective.

  2. Would have to try and find source again, but only a small percent actually bother to make a new account.

  3. If you aren't changing/reforming and spend more money that is simply fiscally irresponsible of the person and stupid, imo.

  4. Money is a reason, but not for your reason. They want to keep a majority of the player base happy so they buy more skins/rp.

The game is FREE to play so the toxic offenders can just make a new account, and that's exactly what they do.

except that new accounts need to have tens of hours, if not hundreds of hours, leveling up first, before they can do things like play ranked games

They tried an endlessly scaling chat restriction in the past. Almost everybody affected turned to gameplay trolling to show their dissatisfaction.

Mute-all.

Yeah but how fun is it to constantly be pre 30? The chat restrict thing sounds like a good idea when you paint it in the light that you did. However, there are actually some pretty negative consequences. Like when people resort to gameplay trolling to spite their shitty teammates, instead of merely spewing garbage into chat that can be muted. Gameplay trolling is a lot harder to detect than toxic chat. Also, they can just use their limited chat to be toxic, cant they? I mean, it doesnt take many sentences to get under someones skin. And then theres the fact that now i gotta play with a bunch of silent players, which takes away an interesting part of team games. I'm not saying your idea is bad, it just isn't an improvement imo.

You don't have to buy skins to play the game .... That don't makes sense at all.

There is no proof permabans increase revenue. There is no logic behind it either. This basically is the song of permabanned players to make themselves feel better by vilifying Riot and crying victim when in fact you were the aggressor and the people playing games with you were the victims.

It makes no sense that after you get permabanned, you create a new account and buy skins again. Those who don't get punished are more likely to spend money because they have less fear of losing their investment. Those who get punished more have more fear of losing their investment. Why would someone who already received the most extreme punishment risk losing that investment in skins again?

You can't restrict inting :)

Just because you say fuck and swear at someone in a video game as a 'player' does mean you are an aggressor. you may say whatever you want because if that person doesn't like what your saying, they can just turn your chat off with mute, or they have chat blockers for swear words and such. im ticketing to get my account unsuspended from permanently from league of legends. Plus i would love to see what happened when perma chat bans were involved. no one talked about that here. what did people go retarded and feed or something? how could perma chat ban possibly ever be bad? its not like pings are not enough. when i am usually chat banned it only applies to the in game chat and not the champion select or pre match chat. You would be able to chat for 2 min while you choose a character, but a perma chat ban would not be the worst thing for people- players with big mouths, virtually. as you said YerroFever I would risk my investment in a video game because its a video game and i treat it as such, and so should this riot games. I spend 100 U.S. dollars on this game and i should be able to play with the account for as long as i want even if im isolated from other players in a manner. sometimes your willing to take a risk and play with someone in a blind pick match that doesnt speak and just uses pings. when i play blind pick i expect to see people i have never seen before. we can't call ourselves victims when we subject ourselves to the public. its a free game and i can play with other people i don't know and not speak in chat if i want. There is a reason that your able to friends in this game and join a lobby together, to avoid the toxic players that you may encounter on your team.
