Suggestion: add a "warning" tier in the punishment tiers (only for chat-related punishments)

Disclaimer: i havent gotten a punishment in like 3 months

So, i think it's quite unfair that you can get an actual punishment for ONE chat-related offense. You cannot play clash, get honor rewards, and your honor level instantly drops to 1 regardless of what it previously was at. You should at least have a second chance before you get some kind of restriction.

Well, a 10-game chat restriction isn't that bad. It basically is a warning! Yes, the chat restriction itself is a warning of some sort. However, the effects of this are beyond the restriction. You lose your honor entirely and get locked out for a while, you cannot play clash (and it takes like 4 months to get back to honor 2 and play clash, which i think is dumb), and other things like rewards.

Now, im not going to argue for intentional feeding/scripting, because, you should immediately get punished for that. But i think that chat is a much more minor offense and should have some kind of a warning tier.

Current Punishment-Tier List:

  • 10 game chat restriction
  • 25 game chat restriction
  • 14 day ban
  • Permanent ban

My Idea:

  • Warning
  • 25 game chat restriction
  • 14 day ban
  • Permanent ban

Well, why skip the 10-game chat restriction? Well, if you get a direct warning and still dont improve your behavior, you deserve a larger punishment.

So, how would this work?

It will replace the 10. Instead of the reform card telling you that you got a 10-game chat restriction, you will be displayed with a large "WARNING" and the following message:

> Warning! Because of an in-game report, your account has been flagged for **[insert report option here.]**This account has been engaging in negative chat directed at other players. Because this is a first-time offense, no action will be taken against your account. However, the next valid report against you will result in a 25-game chat restriction, or greater depending on the intensity!

>Your account's honor has been locked for one week but your level was not dropped. Stay positive on the rift and you will recieve no further consequences.

Overall i think this would be a good change because:

  • You do not lose access to clash and other honor-related rewards for like 3-4 months just for one offense.

  • You are given encouragement to reform and avoid punishment.

  • You are made aware of what will happen if you continue to be negative.

Thoughts?

I'd rather have the warning much sooner than the 10 game restriction.

IMO stopping toxicity early is better.

I actually agree with this, but only because a very bad job is done communicating acceptable behavior to new players.

At the very least, if not a warning, I'd like to see the honor reduction and lock removed from the 10 game CR. That's a bit rough for a first offense.

It's a valid argument. Historically, Riot used to give warnings as the first "punishment". In addition, I like that you have it replacing the 10-game restriction as opposed to an additional tier. Riot noted that multiple low-level punishments don't really help reform players past the second, which is why the third punishment is a hefty two-week suspension. And in my opinion, Riot could do a lot more with relatively little effort to educate players on how the system works. The Monthly Status Cards (in any form) would be a good start, and I think Riot should make a explanation video and give a one-time reward for people to watch it.

There are a couple things that go against it, though.

First, the 10-game chat restriction IS a warning. In terms of punishment, its a slap on the wrist. Sure, the honor loss sucks, but that's part of the point. It serves 3 purposes. One: It explicitly shows (hypothetical) you several games in which (hypothetical) you stepped over the line. Two: It, teaches you that chat has a limited, game-specific purpose, and you don't have the luxury of using it to harass others. Three: It's telling you that what you did is dishonorable, and now your honor rating reflects that.

Second, cutting out the 10-game chat restriction lessens the value of the 25-game restriction. It's possible to dismiss the first chat restriction as a fluke or mistake, but when another comes, it reinforces the very specific idea that the chat is the problem and needs to be addressed.

Perhaps if the warning were tacked on top of the chat restriction, rather than in lieu of the chat restriction. Add some bells and whistles to it. Maybe make honor level 1 easier to climb out of, while leaving honor 0 a serious punishment.
