Lets come up with some new ideas for alternative ways to banning toxic players, we could permanently mute them and give them a permanently displayed tag that shows that they've been permanently muted. This would not only keep the player base less toxic, but keep people from losing all of the money they spent on the game when they're banned. This also gives them a chance to reform. We should also have a way to prevent ourselves from becoming toxic, so maybe an option in the client settings which disables your ability to talk or see other's messages, and maybe another option to only let you see the people on your friendslist's messages in game. If you have any other ideas, please share them so we can help clean up the community (and ourselves for those toxic minded people who want to reform).

Lets come up with some new ideas for alternative ways to banning toxic players, we could permanently mute them and give them a permanently displayed tag that shows that they've been permanently muted.

Previously, according to Riot, when people lost the ability to communicate via infinite scling chat restrictions, they began resorting to gameplay toxicity which can be harder to detect. You also want to give them a symbol of shame. Which, when do we get to see the symbol? In the lobby or only after the game starts?

This would not only keep the player base less toxic, but keep people from losing all of the money they spent on the game when they're banned. This also gives them a chance to reform.

See above about changing to gameplay toxicity and therefore most likely not decreasing toxicity. Don't want to lose money you invested? Demonstrate self control. Know what else gives them a chance to reform? The time after a 10 game CR, the time after a 25 game CR, and the time after a 14 day ban. Besides, how the fuck can they show they reformed if they can't speak to begin with?

We should also have a way to prevent ourselves from becoming toxic, so maybe an option in the client settings which disables your ability to talk or see other's messages, and maybe another option to only let you see the people on your friendslist's messages in game.

You do have a way, actually a few.

  1. Self control.
  2. Mute other players
  3. Play with only a premade
  4. Disable /all chat.
  5. A combination of the prior numbers listed.

After the first chat banned they change your words example you suck=you rock or something. The players can still be reported for toxic if they keep using them but you just will never see it and it will piss them off.

Unfortunately Riot has tried permanently muting players in the past but it just leads to them griefing other areas of the game more by intentionally feeding or following players around and stealing jungle camps or farm. I also don't think branding players with a punishment tag is a good idea, it makes it seem less likely to reform and doesn't encourage growth.

I remember seeing an interesting suggestion a while back for players that have been permanently banned, allowing them to play the game but only with premade teams of 5. They weren't able to use all chat and still had a limited number of messages. I'm not sure if that solution would work but it stood out to me as being pretty unique. It was a player made suggestion though, so Riot doesn't have anything to do with it.

here is an idea. remove ranking system entirely. make everyone play on an even playing field. one reason players are toxic to others is because they think cause they have a higher rank that makes them superior. so by removing all ranking from the game and make it even for everyone there is one less reason to be toxic. (I know riot will never do it and I know this comment WILL be downvoted by players cause they think it a stupid idea but I do not care)

Well i play some other game and there idea to counter toxic is to gif reputation in short rep. They gif you max 10 up and if you break rules you go down to max -10 . Now this how it works aslong if you have positif rep so nothing in the - you can talk but once you get like rep -1 you cant chat anymore. They still gif you rep back everyday but its just 1 rep. And if you you get to mutch reported and you indeed broke you lost 1 rep. So it was posible to loos like 5 in 1 day but imposible to earn more than 1 a day. So you had to choise if you wanna flame but that it dint would take long anymore till you dint could do it anymore. You could be ez in the -10 if you flamed to mutch and sins you only earnt 1 rep to climb back it would at least take 10 days to 11 days befor you could chat again. Its was someting if you wanna chat well earn it.

Riot can punish verbally toxic players by not letting them use chat freely. They can only use a select few words/sentences for communication.

Like: "come top" "well played" "thank you" "need help in jungle" "follow me" "set up for baron" etc...

Late to the party, but I would say I disagree with this BECAUSE if I was stuck with one of these people, it would give our team a disadvantage even if they were doing everything right since they can not communicate (IE I just saw Yi in the jungle) because he's permamuted.
