rant on the toxicity punishments

Why dont you just permanently block someone from chatting in-game (restricted to pinging) instead of perma-banning them? some people could play for 6 years and have a bad game every like 6 months and go off on some kids that probably deserve it too, and get perma-banned for being "toxic."

Do you believe that restricted chat to limited messages for a set amount of games is enough to reform? or even the 2 week suspension?

i know sometimes ill be in game and someone will mention it in champion selection that they are chat restricted, and they'll save all their messages to be toxic. so tell me what does chat restriction do?

IMO i think it would be better to instead of temp/perma suspending accounts, you should temp/perma suspend chat privileges, after all, they are just SAYING asshole things, and aren't (usually) PLAYING like an asshole (looking at those trolls and intentional feeders).

Think about it.

If somebody that is perma-banned for continuous reports of toxicity still wants to play the game, they'll just make a new account and continue being toxic until that one gets banned, and so on.

However, if somebody that's been toxic for awhile and just has his in-game chat muted and still wants to play the game, then he will most likely stay on that muted account and continue to play the game whilst not ruining the experience for extra-sensitive kids that play this game. Hell, it might even be a better way to get him to not be so toxic as a person in general, when he sees someone do something he doesn't like, and cannot communicate it.

aight, rant over.

EDIT:

It also doesn't help the community that riot kind of promotes "toxicity" in big tournaments like the LCS, when they have casters/players firing shots at eachother. Sure you can tell that it's all friendly banter, but there are things like tone of voice, facial expressions, body language, context, etc, that will help you pick up on that. However, when you're IN GAME, all it is.. is text, so you kind of have to imagine it.

EXAMPLE

im playing my main squeeze (fiora) in the top lane against a teemo, and their elise ganks me and i get first blooded, and type in the /all chat "wow"

it can be taken so many different ways because it's just text, not knowing the true intentions

they could be thinking im pissed that i got ganked by elise at 3 minutes, but in reality im thinking "wow, that elise stun was on point"

ok rant is over again.

Well at the end of the day no rioter or anything will post or do anything. They make too much money off of banned players to unlock their accounts. If they truly cared about players and their accts then they would adopt something along the lines of blizzard (and some other smaller companies). Time ban them if they are out of lone but double it for each offense..i.e...1 day ban......2 day......4...8.....16....etc. That way the player knows their acct wasnt "stolen" by riot and they are less likely to make new accts to ravage the low levels and such.

I share the same opinion. Looks like riot dont realy try to help people improving their atitude.

perma chat banning is not enough of a punishment. people who get perma banned for toxicity ruined so many peoples games by flaming that they should loose something they worked for like all the stuff on their account.

I just got perma banned due to a troll duo. I've been very toxic before this. But i stopped saying rude shit. All i would do is call out people and tell them not do what they just did. However you can't really even chat now. Anything can be considered passive aggression ( which is report able)

The fact is, perma chat banning someone actually places the punishment on the offender's team instead of the offender. Yes pings are available, however certain things such as "I'm going to play this lane passive," "let's group push top so we can be near baron" and other things no longer become available and can be extremely confusing to understand by using only pings. This is unfair to the other players as they are penalized for the offender's actions while not having done anything themselves.

Fact of the matter is, in the adult world if you break the rules you face the consequences; other people do not face the consequences for you. Perma-banning is the consequence after numerous other opportunities to reform.

The idea of perma muting someone has been around for a long time, and I can tell you, it doesn't really work. Back in S1&2 when we still had the tribunal, people would stack up thousands of games worth of chat restrictions. They wore it as a badge of honor. Instead of being toxic in chat, they started trolling to get other people pissed off. That's where things like Disco Nunu came from.

You also don't get banned for having a bad game every once in a while, I've had this account for over 5 years at this point, you can bet that I've lost my temper in many games. Yet I haven't had a single punishment, because for a majority of the time, I've kept my cool or just didn't chat at all.

Honestly, I think giving players 3 warnings, 2 chat restricts and a 14 day ban, is enough. For me, the big kicker is the 14 day ban, if you don't think, "hey maybe I should change my attitude" then you really don't care about the warnings.

As far as the LCS banter goes, that I think is a non issue. However, you are correct in that in text it is impossible to tell tone or body language etc. But in response to your edit, I would say something like, "damn that was an unexpected gank, wp". That way there is less confusion.

Maybe toxicity isn't what you think it is. You seem to think it's someone insulting your mom or asking you to kill yourself. Yeah, someone toxic would probably be the one to do those things. But a toxic person trying to lose the game can screw up matchmaking. Players are supposed to try to win every game they play. If they don't make any effort, it ruins the competitive nature of the game.

" promotes "toxicity" in big tournaments like the LCS, when they have casters/players firing shots at eachother. Sure you can tell that it's all friendly banter, but there are things like tone of voice, facial expressions, body language, context, etc, that will help you pick up on that" -- Flaming someone doesn't automatically mean you don't care about them or that you're trying to do them harm. You might just be angry at them for something and maybe you have some advice for them or maybe you have something else you're trying to tell them. At any rate, a toxic person is trying to tear down the relationships between the players with no intention of building them back up. Someone that gets angry is upset with the status quo, and is trying to change it, for better or for worse.

If all you're doing is trying to protect the status quo, then you aren't embracing change. Getting angry sometimes is the only way to get things to change. The trick is to control your anger so that you can inspire changes. Someone that just lets their anger get out of control becomes a fool and is quickly condemned for their irresponsible behavior. That doesn't mean that you should never get angry. Just be more mature about it in the future.
