Why is the Automated Banning system SO inconsistent?!

Note: I am only pointing out how inconsistent the system is, and not if punishments were justified or if there was a lack of punishment in certain cases that makes you upset.

My issue is that there seems to be no common ground or regularity between punishments/bans. Quite frankly, it's not up to standards.

Some players can go hundreds of games wishing 'cancer' and saying other obsene things such as 'kys' and calling people 'retards'. Then some players get banned just for some petty arguments with a teammate. Some players get banned instantly for saying the same exact thing that someone has been saying for hundreds of games and isn't banned yet. Etc, etc. And that's not even taking into account how inconsistent it is regarding trolls and intentional feedings - BUT I won't get too into that side of the story as I'm fairly certain it speaks for itself. Yes, INT feeders and trolls are harded to detect, yada yada yada. Ok, moving on.

But if that's the case, then what's the excuse with chat infractions and the incongruities regarding the punishments and bans handed out? It just makes no sense.

All I expect and want from this automated system is for it to be consistent at least.

I could be happy with a less forgiving system or a even a more lenient one. I truly don't care. However, what I believe is truly important is that we can find some stability and equilibrium.

It's no wonder that some (most?) people lose/have lost faith in the system, and consequently in Riot. I know that I don't fully believe in the banning system myself anymore (no, I was never banned).

For example I've witnessed my own friends' toxicity for months, and years, yet they go unpunished, just like who knows how many other players out there. While at the same time, I've witnessed friends tilt in just 1 or 2 games and get instantly punished (they weren't even as bad as the actual toxic friends I mentioned above. It makes no sense.)

So to sum it up, there's just no consistency in how the punishments are handed out.

I am confused how there hasn't been an official discussion on this topic, and maybe involving a Rioter as well. Surely it's something that pops up often on these boards while discussing individual player bans, but I believe a thread dedicated to this specific topic is needed.

Let me know what you think and if you deem the system to be as inconsitent as I believe it to be.

my theory. riot is lying about multiple reports stacking. and riot claims "1 report = 9" simply to cut down on the amount of report begging in chat. and to not encourage premades to game the system by gang reporting people they dont like

It is consistent. People all generally get 2-4 chances before they get a punishment. Just because you don't see them instantly punished doesn't mean it's being inconsistent.

Further, people get chat restricted before they get banned in most cases. The system is lenient to everyone. Some people just run through that leniency faster than others.

You're right, there is inconsistency. But not in the place where you think. The inconsistency lies in the player base, the views on what is toxic and what isn't differs greatly between the entire player base. Everyone has their own views on what is reportable or not.

Players don't get punished if they don't get reported. (Except in the case of leaverbuster of course.)

You can't claim that an automated program is inconsistent. In fact it's exactly the opposite.

Your sample size is much too small to draw any definite conclusions.

Its inconsistency is pathetic to be frank

Simply put, the system goes for more leniency than quick punishments. It assumes and takes in to account that people have bad days/games. Everyone tilts every so often. So......let's add other factors to that ....

  1. Sometimes people forget to report someone or just don't report at all (no matter what the person does)
  2. You don't actually know if someone gets punished/warned. Just because they tell you they have never been banned isn't always true.
  3. It simply takes a lot of toxic games to get punished (unless you simply say racist or really terrible things)

Of course it will be inconsistent.

Jesus what is your source? You must have some inside data that we don't have access to. I don't know how else you could come to all these conclusions. Maybe you're assuming some things? Maybe you don't know, but you're assuming based on posts from salty people and not knowing the full situation? Maybe these cases of people going 100s of games wishing cancer on people are kind of a fallacy that you heard and just believed for whatever reason?

Honestly i just think they need to add a reform que or something instead of perma banning theses accounts so quickly, the ban system is childish and over does the whole ban thing for players who are more active in chat, just because somone reacts to a flamer/ troll does not makke them toxic , it means the didnt mute and ignore the person like other people so they end up typing and get a smack down by rito for honestly nothing more than a little chat bm? like what the fuck is that.. all this time playing the game and because i was "mean" to someone i get banned?

I once played a match duo premade with a guy who has a tendency to be highly toxic in chat.

He's actually using an alternate account because the main got perma'd.

We played a match together where I said absolutely nothing during the course of the match. He, however, did his thing and the chat was filled with hitler references and racial slurs.

Immediately after that match, I received a chat ban. He did not.

The system works as intended, always consistent.

If you are toxic, you get punished. Honestly the system should be lighter on less toxic people. We have a mute button, people should use it. No need to be punished for being toxic ever unless you tell someone to hurt themselves, use racial slurs and stuff.

Simply if someone is toxic, mute them.

typically people whom get punished for petty things either have a long history of petty arguments (that only Riot can see) or they just came off a 14-day ban and any small thing can get them punished.
