2 weeks ago I got a temp ban for toxic behavior (no prior chat restrictions or warnings). But the point of this isn't to defend myself, I know I was wrong and I shouldn't flame in a video game intended to have fun. However, my question lies in the fact that the provoker of my toxic behavior wasn't banned. Let me clarify, it was a ranked game and this dude was calling me and my teammates trash, and cussing at all of us, and eventually started intentionally feeding. After the game, I reported him for inting and verbal abuse, but he never got banned. Instead, I got banned for calling him a "dumbass" and throwing a couple of stupid insults at him. My question is, why was I the only person that got punished, when we both deserved to be?

You dont actually know if he was punished or not. Have you checked to see if he played any recent games? While it might not be a sure-thing he was ban (he could have just stop playing) it a good indication. But even then he could have gotten hit with a Chat Restriction which cannot be proven unless you play with him again.

Remember that you only get the notification about someone getting ban if yours was the last report to have said person ban. For all you know someone else reported him afterwards and they got the notification. Or while it seems like he got away with it. If he does it again the IFS would check this game and see he is toxic thus being able to ban him. Being ban like this needs to be consistent and frequent!

Tiers of punishment. If your next stage is a 2 week ban, but he's fresh (no punishments of any kind), obviously you won't see him punished.

Also, even if he does get punished, you don't always see the notification. Sometimes you do, but only if your report was from the game he got punished for, and even then, I think it's sometimes randomly withheld.

As the others have stated, it does depend on his account's history.

If the inting is confirmed to not just be a bad game, the punishment is a 14-day ban. If it's for verbal harassment (as long as there is no hate speech) the punishment can be anywhere from "not quite punishable yet need more games" to permaban, depending on his current account standing.
