Chat Restriction...for what?

Here's what happened:

Playing a regular solo q and my team was basically dominating the game and this Volibear in the other team says "report mid and top." When me and my team asked why he said "for feeding." Now obviously thats dumb, people have off games and can feed and it happens alot, so what I said was "cant report ppl for who just have a bad game dumbass" while my jungler said "voli stfu." He then said that he'll report me and my jungler for using "vulgar language" and we that we got "chat logged." Now I will admit, I can be toxic from time to time bc I'm competitive and I did have a 10 game chat restriction about a week ago which I fully understand. But after today where I wasn't barely trash talking and ACTUALLY defending the people who were having an off game and getting flamed by the volibear, I got a 24 game chat restriction. WHY. I wasn't even toxic and negative other than saying that the Voli was being an idiot thinking we would report people for having a bad day. I've sent this to the Riot Support page and all I got was a Blitzcrank Bot which wasn't even helpful at, but this is what it had said that caught my attention:

"This penalty stems from demonstrating negative or abusive behaviors in chat - in human terms, this means giving up on games, griefing your fellow players, and generally being difficult to play with over a large number of matches and teammates."

  1. I wasn't being "abusive" or "negative" in chat other than telling that Volibear for being an idiot
  2. I actually thanked the player who was having a bad (Viktor) for being a good sport
  3. I have not "gave up on games," "grief any players," or was being "generally difficult to play with"

It really frustrates me when I get punished for actually doing the right things and maybe my wording with Volibear can seem as "negative" but seriously? You're gunna call me negative while this guy is falsely reporting players for doing nothing wrong? After I got chat restricted I was literally watching what I would say and haven't even said anything bad in that game. And thats how I get rewarded for apparently being "unsportsmanlike." It really blows my mind that Riot can just let things like this happen and let the players that were actually being negative just be free. Like I've said, I've already sent a ticket and was trying to find a live chat, but idk why its so hard to find so I'm posting it on the boards here instead.

If Riot decides not to remove my chat restriction then I think I'm going to be done with this game for a while. This really made me frustrated and I'm just not gonna bother playing this game anymore.

Acting as a vigilante isn't the right thing to do. If someone is being toxic in chat, mute them and report them in the post-game screen. Don't play into their games and stir up even more drama.

If you're both doing the _same _ thing, then yes. Judging by your chat log, it seems like you were also spreading negative attitude and toxicity. Besides, false reports have no value. You cannot get punished for not breaking the rules, regardless of someone reporting you.

I've sent this to the Riot Support page and all I got was a Blitzcrank Bot which wasn't even helpful

These lines are moderately negative, but it's within your team's purview whether or not it warranted reports.

And this is definitely below the line of expected behavior. Arguing, mocking, and insulting someone - regardless of your reasons - is not allowed. On top of that, taunting them with the threat of a chat restriction isn't sportsmanlike behavior.

Generally unsportsmanlike, so like the first instance of quoted chat, it may not be heavily relevant to your punishment, but it's still noteworthy negative behavior.

I swear, lines like this virtually always seem to precede a punishment of some variety. True, you didn't get banned - yet - but your misbehavior still led to a punishment, and boasting about how you think you won't get punished is practically begging for laser-guided karma.

Harassing Volibear throughout most of the match was not "the right things".

It seemed negative, because it was negative. Insults, taunts of chat restrictions, mockery and derisive comments - that all is plenty negative.

False reports have no effect. If he reports someone for intentionally feeding when they were trying their best, then guess what? The report gets thrown out.

Huh. And you were so sure the Volibear would get punished. What happened to that surety?

If you reported Volibear, and they were misbehaving, then the odds are high that they'll have gotten punished, too. On top of that, you can't claim Riot lets people who misbehave go free without proof, and this is certainly a case where you have no such evidence.

I hate to break it to you, but it's sorely unlikely that this punishment will be overturned. It wasn't issued in error (as explained above), so I wouldn't put money on it being removed.

Anytime you decide to fight toxicity back or "defend yourself" you have to be very careful with your words as in this case your response you are calling the person a "dumbass" and "get reported" that is toxic my friend.

Fighting fire with fire creates a bigger fire. Next time hold it in, mute, and report.
