The Riot Perma Ban System

On July 28th, I received a player reform card stating that I had been perma banned from the game due to toxic behavior. This is not my first, but second account to be banned.

I understand banning players for homophobia, racism, or blatant degenerate-like behavior (which is why I understand why my younger, more immature self was punished) but the game is competitive, and with competition comes trash talking. There's a reason why the game is losing viewership in NA, due to simply a lack of interest from the player base and lack of content produced by the very players who were supposed to watch.

I made my second account with the mindset that I should simply try to climb. My old tendencies got in the way of this, which caused a 10 game chat restrcition, to a 25 game chat restriction, and later a 14 day suspension. This 14 day suspension, unlike any other form of punishment I'd received prior had actually changed the way I thought about the game. Instead of making enemies, I made friends and this led me on a streak of positive behavior for 100+ days since my last punishment.

To begin with my problem about the whole system, I'll start with two things I actually love, the times when you get the message that someone you reported was punished, and the times when you recieve honors from your teammates for either doing well or being "nice" (above the standards of an average league of legends player". Unfortunately, Riot doesn't care about honors if you were reported. The game I was banned off of I was given 2 honors from teammates and was reported by one, who was also reported by two of my own teammates and myself. When I logged in to the client the next day, I was greeted with the "a player you reported was punished by the tribunal system", I click ok and then am greeted with a perma ban player reform card. By the way, you shouldn't call it a player reform card if you're banning a player, Riot. I contact support to take another look at this, message a couple of buddies what I said and they all agreed that I would actually have a chance this time, unlike the last time.

I'm going to be frank here, and say that as a community, nearly everyone agrees that it both A. Doesn't work B. Isn't really fair

So, how do you intend to fix that? Take a deep look at some of your competitors, for likely what is the first time in a while for the Riot company as a whole.

I personally believe that CS:GO, a community with a fairly sizeable playerbase that is similarly toxic deals with toxicity the best out of any game I've seen. The players either grow some thicker skin and don't care, or they report the toxic behavior, and the reported player is "lumped" into a group of similarly toxic players. This system works because they same type of people can have the same type of players around them. And I know, it's a lot of work to make a system like that, but just banning people for toxicity and taking the literal days and hundreds of dollars that people spend on this game because they said a word in a way that someone didn't like is absurd to me.

Riot I contacted your support 4 days ago. No response. If you aren't going to respond to tickets, fine. But at least implement a system where players that are actively trying to reform are unbanned and see how it works, take a look at how many times they a re-banned.

But do something, please. I'm not looking for something to be done to my account in particular, but make it so the community doesn't have to suffer because they had a bad day.

Start caring about things other than what people say, perhaps such a actions they take. Because as Abraham Lincoln once said "Actions speak lounder than words."

Day 57626 without a single punishment, and I still asked myself "how the fuck can people still get banned...?".

That's funny, because the vast majority of the community, since Tribunal, has asked for a system like we have today, and there's even a large portion of the community who feel that the current system is too lenient.

So, how do you intend to fix that? Take a deep look at some of your competitors, for likely what is the first time in a while for the Riot company as a whole.

You mean like Overwatch, CSGO, Fortnite, R6S, and other games who are copying Riot's systems/policies (or at least moving more towards them) in an attempt to combat toxicity?

CS:GO is considered the most toxic game out there. It is impossible to play a game of CS:GO without being flamed. There's a reason its active playerbase is less than a tenth of what Riot's is.

This system works because they same type of people can have the same type of players around them. And I know, it's a lot of work to make a system like that, but just banning people for toxicity and taking the literal days and hundreds of dollars that people spend on this game because they said a word in a way that someone didn't like is absurd to me.

The system does not work. I'm not toxic. In fact, I never chat when playing CS:GO. I have not had a single game of CS:GO without toxicity.

And in fact, it's quite easy to make a system that lumps toxic players together. It just doesn't improve anything. It just makes it impossible for players who screw up once to improve, because they'll be lumped with toxicity, and toxicity breeds toxicity.

It is quite rare to have a ticket go that long without a response. Have you bumped your ticket, or made multiple tickets on the same issue after Riot has considered the matter closed? Given that you admit that you had a prior account banned, I doubt Riot Support will take 3 years explaining this to you - you know why you were punished and they're not going to sit there and baby you. Their job is to revert improper punishments and help explain to people who need it - you do not fall into either of those categories.

But do something, please. I'm not looking for something to be done to my account in particular, but make it so the community doesn't have to suffer because they had a bad day.

You don't suffer for a bad day. You are not permabanned for one bad day. You are permabanned for continued and consistent toxic behavior after multiple warnings to improve your behavior.
