asking ppl (friendly) to stop pingspam/flame or you mute them. bad thing to do?

whenever someone flames or pingspams i tell them the same message

"would you be so kind to not pingspam/flame? its really distracting and if you continue i will mute you"

im trying to be nice but also making a point. stop being a spoiled annoying kid because i wont deal with your shit. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eo9pU1q8sy8 shoutouts @ 0:36) but people told me telling others you will mute them is "negative attitude" towards your team and can get you banned. so is that true? if it is i just remove the "or i mute you" part. its easy to do, but i feel like then the "warning" loses some pressure.

Usually asking them to stop XYZ or you'll mute them leads to them cheekily spamming XYZ or finding something different to spam in spite. So I say just mute them.

its not a reportable offense telling people that but its better to just mute them without saying anything because when you tell somebody your gonna mute them it just ends up making them more hostile in most cases

No those kids who told you that are just confused and not thinking about it any deeper. It only becomes a problem when you tell them youll mute em, and they say some shit, and you keep responding to em. As long as you actuslly mute them and dont say anything else (as that will be considered antagonizing) youll be fine.

The system might see that as you being passive aggressive, and if you were to consistently do that, it would punish you. I'd just tell them to stop spamming, and if they didn't I'd tell them I'm muting them and then mute them. The system might also judge telling them that you're muting them to be toxic, but I'd do that so they won't waste any time trying to communicate something to me, and don't assume that I've read what they're trying to communicate to me.
