If Riot wants to stop toxicity why is their all chat?

Seriously, what does all chat do except promote toxic behavior. There's nothing good about it, people only use it to flame each other, and if not, borderline ghost or help them ex. "why are you going after the tank," or "look at your jg dumbass" after getting camped. They have it in the game because no one would play this trash ass game if all chat wasn't in it. Even Dunkey said it 5 YEARS AGO, I didn't completely agree with him back then, but now I see it. Literally the same problem 5 years ago is still happening with it just getting worse with more people inting and trolling instead of talking shit because they know they won't get banned for going Miss fortune support without even buying a single support item, but they will if they call someone a pile of human trash.

Because it's fun to have friendly taunting and trash talk.

What Dunkey said was just utterly toxic and deserved to be punished. The Malphite also deserved to be punished.

If his defense is that it's a video game, why is he so mad over a video game?

All Chat is disable by default at your account creation. You had to manually go to option and check the box that said you want to see All Chat. And from the moment of your account creation until the day you decide to quit League, you have the option to disable All Chat at any given time even during an active game. It's like Language Filter is enabled by default. You have to disable it to be able to see fuck and shit, etc. It is your choice to see All Chat and the choice to disable it has always been available to you at any given time. You can't really turn around and say all chat is bad when you had to make the conscious decision to turn it on to begin with. If it's so bad FOR YOU, then why don't you turn it off in option and be done with it??

Sometimes I want to be able to say "shit good play" to an enemy?

Seriously - just because you yourself can't use it appropriately doesn't mean others don't. And no, others are NEVER going to be forced to do what you want - you are not the boss, you are not above everyone else, you are not some "league god" who knows everything and has all the answers.

How to ruin any semblance of an argument:

Link that Dunkey video.

Using that Dunkey video to try to support your argument is pretty much admitting defeat since it's a known fact that he lied in it, which Lyte proved back when he still worked at Riot. To quote Lyte:

What do you think about vgdunkey's ban?

It's really unfortunate. Many Rioters love Dunkey's content, and I've unloaded my share of "Not even close babyyyyy" jokes around the office; however, we really can't show favoritism to someone just because they are a pro or a known content creator. This isn't really a debate about whether trashtalking is OK or not OK in games; we've talked a lot in the past about how we're OK with players bantering with their friends but you should be careful when interacting with strangers who may not understand your intentions--especially if you're using hate speech or slurs. We have a zero tolerance policy against hate speech, racism, homophobia, and sexism and that policy stands whether you're a random player, a pro player, or a Youtube celebrity.

This also really wasn't a case about intentional feeders and whether it's OK to be toxic towards other toxic players--there wasn't even a Malphite in the game that got him banned and either way, retaliation just isn't OK because it makes the experience worse for everyone else in the game.

We know that players have been asking us to be more aggressive against intentional feeders for awhile, and it has taken us a bit longer than we'd like. We do consider gameplay toxicity just as serious as verbal toxicity, and are launching a new Intentional Feeder Detection system in 5.18 that can ban feeders within 15 minutes of matches. We're starting with conservative settings to make sure the system would not ban players for having the rare bad game, even if it was a 0-10 type of bad game but this is a great first step to aggressively tackling intentional feeders.

At the end of the day, this incident sucks for everyone. We respect that Dunkey hasn't posted his Reform Card, and I'm not going to post it either. Best wishes to him in the future.

That aside just because a select few can't use chat without flaming or harassing others doesn't mean the feature itself is bad. Plenty of people are able to use it just fine with no issues. I've personally had many experiences with all chat where the enemy team didn't flame us and vice versa, such as the couple games of ARAM where I went deathless as Janna (which coincidentally ended in a win for my teams). If a person is gonna use chat to flame or harass others then they have no right to complain if they get punished for it.

Doesn’t that video fall through since he has since comeback and play League?

Yin Yang Taoist1/28/2020, 1:53:32 AM2 votes

OP, you're given the tools to make use of them while enjoying the game and letting others enjoy it. What you said reminds me of one of these light novels I was reading where the protagonist has an evil power and so all of the Holy Light league's want to kill him. But the thing is, the protagonist isn't evil. The reason why the power is deemed evil is because his predecessor used the same ability to wreck havoc and kill billions!

My point is, each of us is like a protagonist in the game. Each of us has the ability to use team chat, all chat, issue pings, pick champs we want to play, usually play roles we like to play etc. Its on us and not on the tools provided in the game, which can go both ways. Good or bad! So, its on you and everyone else on how they use these tools and choices provided in the game. If you use it to type positive stuff, encourage people and be genuinely nice then its great. If you use it to flame, be a complete tilter and be that guy who drags his team's hind legs then that's also you. Removing the tools altogether is not the solution because not everyone is bad.

Wrong. I use it to comment on enemy team's skins at the start of the match, they use it to poke fun at my insane champion mastery at the start of the match.

The main source of toxicity is not in all chat. Instead, it's mainly from people disagreeing on plays / skill.

Tele II1/29/2020, 4:05:12 AM1 votes

Just for general communication between people playing the same game. I dont know why it has to be toxic... i use it all the time, never been punished. I dont understand why you think it promotes toxicity. Its a chat. It doesnt promote anything, its just there. Use it if you want, but dont use it to break the rules or you might get punished.

There really isn't a good reason for either chat tbh, the amount of flame outweighs the positive messages and compliments probably 10 to 1, but sometimes it feels like 100 to 1

I played a game years ago (before LoL) that had a smallish community. After the game went downhill I was playing League and on the enemy team was a username (not a common one at all) that I recognized from the game. Since my username had changed since I played the previous game they wouldn't have recognized me. I was able to use all chat to talk with them and reminisce afterwards. Wouldn't have happened without all chat probably.
