Behavior Moderation Needs to be More Harsh

Okay, a lot of the players that I run into my games, aren't necessarily "trolls" or intentionally feeding, BUT, are complete jerks. What they say might not be inherently TOXIC, but it can be pretty flipping' infuriating to play against, or with, when they're on your team. You can read the chat logs, and recognize that that player was being a bit of pest to their team, or the other team, but you can't really put yourself in the spot of the victim, and see how angry it can make a person.

For example, I get into a game the other day, I was playing Thresh because I got auto-filled in support and had made that CLEAR to my team that that was the case. So we had a Nocturne jungle, so I was looking forward to this game because Nocturne's pretty good right now. But as soon as they game starts, he's barking orders at everyone, particularly me, telling them what to, and what not to do. I suggested invading as we had a strong comp for it, he immediately shuts me down and tells us what's going to happen. "Thresh you are GOING to tank two shots from red" which I did, and I was ultimately trying to stay on everyone's good sides so we could win the game. Our ADC had also got auto-filled, so let's just say bot didn't go too well. I had Nocturne muted for most of the game, after experiencing the first couple minutes of the game. As the game went on, he would furiously ping someone every time they died, and if at some point he wasn't muted he would say "Nice" or "10/10" as if he was some god that had ascended from the heavens to carry boosted teams like ours, but believe it or not, he wasn't doing insanely well like his actions had promised. He ended with the score of 8/8/7, which isn't really that bad, but for that kind of attitude, I guess you could say we expected more. Later into the game, our Jhin was trying to take the red, rightfully so, being our ADC, but our Nocturne decides to come and smite it away from him, and proceed to get mad at ME, the THRESH, for not being there for dragon. I've seen some pretty nice dragon steals with Thresh's hook, but this one is on you pal.

I think whoever runs the Behavior moderation system should really put themselves in the victims' shoes, and decide whether the person deserves a chat restriction or ban to help the issue. Sorry for being negative. I've had a bit of a rough go as far as ranked goes the past week or so. Stay positive!*[slayer-jinx-wink]*

Holy wall of text. I didn't read all of it; I'm merely responding to your title and using the assumption that behavior moderation has to do with chat behaviors.

I disagree. They need to work on detecting trolls and feeders. Toxicity is such a minor issue that people focus on because they give it power. Don't take shit personal. Ignore flamers and blamers. They saw you make one play poorly and think they know you... how can you take them seriously? So, please, work on troll detection Riot. Fuck the social, verbal, inconsequential shit. People are intentionally losing games and getting away with it.

If my response is off topic, I apologize and ignore me.

I disagree in certain classifications of behavior you've set. I do believe some of the behavior you were talking about is toxic, like the mass ping spam every time someone died and/or reveling in the demise of a teammate. I do agree that it's creating a non-cooperative environment and I think that kind of behavior needs to be curtailed.

I also disagree that behavior moderation needs to be more harsh. This may just be a poor choice of word because of your frustration and maybe you meant that behavior moderation should be more frequent to try and nip things in the bud rather than wait until toxic levels reach critical mass and you need to temp ban someone.

I do agree that the moderators need to put themselves in the recipient's shoes, however, there are a few things that need to be considered:

  1. It's not Riot's job to be helicopter parents to make sure no one is ever triggered, however Riot does want to make sure the gaming experience is overall pleasant since there is no way to make the gaming experience 100% pleasant. It's just not possible.
  2. Riot doesn't have the resources and the time to dish out more discipline at more frequent intervals.
  3. Riot shouldn't be draconian with their punishments because a punishment should be proportional to the offense.
