How am I supposed to learn a champion

Zenfro·7/20/2016, 4:49:02 AM·3 votes·1,014 views

I keep trying to play new champs in normals, such as the new op champs (vlad, ryze, etc.) And of course, i do pretty bad. My team always keeps yelling at me to uninstall and kill myself, and they always say to play bots, which I dont think puts me at the level so I can play against and with real people.

Can anyone tell me how to learn a champion without being flamed at the whole game and actually being able to have the skill with the champ to play with real people afterwards?

An honest answer: after you've identified the champ, check out builds and streams. There you can get an idea of how the champ works and the trades that they excel in. Then you can head into norms, see if the feel is right for you. There's also many subreddits for specific champs (vlad has one) that has specific suggestions if you can wade through it.

Short of that though, if you continue to play, work on farm, and ignore people who bash you, you'll get more used to the champ.

Edit: and while I'm thinking about it, treating everyone nicely goes a long way to helping YOUR outlook. That Ali miss a W-Q combo? Comment "NT" or something of the like. Let them know you recognize what they're trying to do and encourage it.

Just mute them and keep playing

Mute them and keep playing norms. Tell them it's not even ranked.

That's pretty sad :/ I suggest that you first practice with bots until you're completely comfortable with the champ you wanna practice. It won't put you at the level you want, but it'll help you reach there. Once you ready to play in norms, immediately mute anyone who starts being mean to you. Norms are for having fun/testing stuff out, so just ignore and mute rude people. Hope I was some help.

It's an immoral act to drag 4 other summoners down into the muck with you every single match.

You look at the flamers match history, tell him you see why he is a rager, then mute him.

If you care what other players think and what they say about you, then play bots for a while. I learned its as good as playing regular as long as you do it a lot. I must've done like 50 games to learn one champion, went into my first regular match with them and got 20+ kills, this champion became my main soon after. Just play, if you don't wanna do bots then join a match, mute everyone and concentrate on the game. I've also found that looking into the champ you want to learn helps, i.e understanding all of their abilities, not necessarily combo's, how it all works and then playing with this new information.

I haven't had this happen when I use a champ I'm not used to. But I play 1 bot game the very first time I play them, then I play norms

In ranked. Everyone is bad there or boosting so they won't care.

ask the champion to teach you

don't play in normal play vs ai or full custom 1 vs 9 ai and practice over and over until you get the hang.

Yeah I have run into this a lot. Since I am basically endeavoring to have level 5 with every common support in the game.. and even in other roles I am just dropping a champion when I hit level 5 to learn something new (I need a new top laner help)

I tell them if it is my first game or if I am still learning the champion and if they are a dick about it mute them.

I have never been as tilted as when I was learning Bard (its hard to learn bard) and in a game where I told them I was just learning I legitimately had my best game on the champion so far at that point and they raged at me.. I just... I just couldn't handle it and had to take a break.

You could try 1v1 with a friend that has a similar skill level to you.

Take the champion into several bot matches. When you get to a point where you are farming well and can easily solo bully lanes with multiple bots then try them out in normals.

Look through several build guides and test them out in bots to see what you like best. You might decide to change them once you get into normals but it gives you a place to start.

Go on youtube and watch some tutorial vids or streams of other players using them so you can pick up different tips and tricks.

Lastly, remember that even when you learn how to play a champion you still have to learn how to play them against every other champion in the game.

Well, it honestly depends on how long you've been playing the game as well. A lot of these people who flame you have probably been playing the game for a minimum of 3 years, so they're not used to seeing new comers.

The only way to really improve your mechanics on a champion, is to play that champion A LOT. I'd start with something simple, for top, start off with garen/kayle/malphite, for jungle, play something like yi/warwick/tryndamere, for mid play someone like kat/annie/lux/vlad, for adc play ashe(she's really strong right now)/caitlyn/jinx and you can really pick any support.

Taken into account, a lot of this just depends on your playstyle, if you're super aggressive or incredibly passive. But one thing to keep in mind, and this helps me win a lot more games in ranked then I should, is to sustain in laning phase. Just cs until you can't anymore. If you can hit somewhere around 160 cs within 20 minutes, then go do something. People won't flame you for farming and playing passive, at least they shouldn't because, well, you're not feeding. Also, if they are giving you a hard time, just mute them. The amount of times a toxic player has carried me is gigantic, so it's better not to piss them off more or make them tilt more.

For basic mechanics bots will help. If you don't have the foundation down, you won't get the rest when dealing with live human beings. The rest simply comes with time and experience. If you are behind, play defensively. A lot of people get into the mindset they must keep being aggressive which ends up with them feeding.

Until you're comfortable on a champion focus more on csing during laning phase and stay with your team for team fights. Don't let the negativity of others stop you if this is what you want. It all depends on how passionate you are about it.

Can anyone tell me how to learn a champion without being flamed

I'm afraid you are deeply mistaken. You are going to be flamed regardless even if you're on your main and stomping. Not doing well is just their excuse and if you're doing well they'll find a different excuse. That's the kind of community we have.

Also bot game isn't an option, because you'll be playing 1v9 and will prove challenging to stomp all 3 lanes if you're playing a champion you're not familiar with.
