Suicide threat in pre-game lobby

Hard Mode Ezze·8/21/2019, 12:28:43 AM·32 votes·16,707 views

A player I was just in game with told the team that they would be committing suicide and they wanted to spend their last hours playing League. I offered to talk to the person and I gave them the number for the suicide hotline but they told me that they had made up their minds.

I dodged the game and made a support ticket.

Is there anything else I should be doing? I wanted to make sure my report got in front of someone's eyes at Riot before it's too late.

So a dude randomly said, out of the blue, that he would off himself? To bunch of random strangers?

I might be an ass for saying this but i think he's just saying it for attention and shock value. It might be true tho, but since people nowadays will say/do anything for attention and based on what you described it just looks like a troll.

I can't think of anything. Unless Riot could somehow give information on where the person's computer is. I hope it all works out. Good job being available and acting on the side of caution.

I believe if you called a suicide hotline yourself and told them of the situation, they’d potentially have the means of tracking this individual down. If they can reach him then the individual will have to spend 48 hours in protective care to either get the help they need and if they weren’t serious, learn why making such claims is an awful thing to do.

I get that this is not exactly the kind of thing that will let your rest easily, but do your own mental health a favour and try not to linger too much on thoughts like this. There's a thin line between caring and caring too much. You did what you could; and frankly more than anybody would expect from a stranger.

i have to agree with other comments. many people that say this are only looking for attention. you could call the police or something but idk.

from personal experience, thats no use. if a person REALLY made up their mind, they'll try it again and again until it works. sadly.

According to rito last decicions it wouldnt suprised me if they give that guy a 14days ban.

As someone who has had to deal with people who have mental health issues, you've done your part. You alerted Riot, and gave them the resources you've had at hand. That's the best thing you can do since you no nothing else about them. I would say at this point try not to think about it since you've done what you can. If that isn't an option, you could also try calling a help hot line and they can help you as well.

If someone in lobby said they wanted to do the deed, that means they already have been given the hotline and the standard things.

If someone was actually set on doing it, they wouldn't broadcast it because people will prevent them so, if they were serious they wont tell anyone and just subtly disappear. If that were the case and that they wanted to play league of the last few hours then maybe you should have played with him and shown that there is still such that as a 'good game' (metaphor for good things) out there. That might cheer them up and delay the deed or prevent it.

So dodgeing the game might decrease whatever low opinion this guy has of people to something sub-zero. Especially if you talked to him in lobby. Even if you lose, you can make a minor self-sacrifice to save a guy don't you think? Like having even a tiny bit of fun for someone depressed will trigger a chain of memories especially if they have made up their mind I think. So I would play with him and be in the same lobby with him afterwards aswell. If he is in game he wont be doing anything IRL except playing the game. Keep him on voice chat aswell, so you can hear whats going on on his side.

If you want it to get it in front of someone, call your emergency number.

shoulda remembered his ign and told riot tho. i doubt riot would help why would they spend the last 3 years making there game even more and more less about skill and more about getting lucky too not have people flat out grief purposefully and then too top it off they don't ever ban foir griefing i made an account too test such theory basically all i did was play about 100 ranked games and would run it down all game. i was honour lvl 3 and not a single notification saying anything about me doing anything wrong. then i remembered league may be fucking garbage but going outside other then too go to work/ get groceries is nice went out with a few friends was nice xD back too subject riot if they were actually half decent people and not human trash would take the given ign get ip and tell the authorities after all riot themselves do track ip's Draven

I've learned to take screenshots and just send them to support. Feels satisfying to do.

Chocobro (Riot Games Player Support) I understand that receiving a penalty like this is really frustrating. That being said, I did provide you with what you said that we considered to be negative. Saying "fk u" to a Summoner for any reason is negative and not ok. If they were spamming mastery after they killed your champ, the best thing to do would have been to mute their emotes. In addition, calling Summoners names in relation to animals is also negative. In the future, when you encounter negative Summoners, please make sure to mute, play out the game to the best of your ability, and report them afterwards. In this example chatlog the jungler was using phrases like "kys" and went unpunished. Apparently this is fair :). Spread the word guys.

I completely understand that it's difficult to stop ourselves from reacting quickly in situations like you've been in. Though the context of what others have said or even the actions they've taken can help to paint a picture of what has occurred. The use of your own chat is the only aspect we take note of when considering a follow up penalty. I apologize for repeating myself but after a 2-week suspension has been applied, any small point of your chat that can be noted as negative, is weighed heavily against your favor.

Players that feed, troll, or grief matches will be penalized if reported at the end of the game. That sort of behavior is taken very seriously and will not go unseen. I'll take a look into your troublesome teammates you've mentioned, for a manual report. I do need to note that I cannot reveal any sort of action that I may or may not have taken due to privacy concerns.

In this example chatlog the “allied” adc and duo queue support wintraded a high elo game. After communicating with these players post game it was found that no punishment was issued for the griefing bot lane. Riot games is a great company guys :).
